How does Optimum compare with PB SSR line?

Just ordered some but wondered if people had a consensus here. Wondering about overall polishing capability and ease of use...



Does it beat the SSR line? I love SSR2.5.



Does it beat Zaino Z-PC?

Completely different products my friend....And there both very unique in their capabilities...A couple comparisons, based purely on my own personal experience and use. Both can be used in the sun, although Opt probably has a longer working time in the sun.

PB's cuts quicker (2.5 vs Opt) I would rate the Opt Polish somewhere between 2.0 and 2.5, probably closer to 2.0 though.

Opt can be worked for quite a while. This gives the user the option of additional cutting time. It doesnt ever seem like "it cuts, and your done". It willl polish until you have reached, hopefully, your expectations. It may be a little on the light side for actual "cutting" abilities. But thats easily resolved with either adding some compound, or switching to the compound altogether.

2.5 cuts immediately, it gets right to the task at hand, and accomplishes it very easy.

IMO, Opt can do what SSR's 1, 2, and 2.5 can do, but SSR's cant do what the Opt Polish can do. Analogy...

SSR's for immediate no nonsense polishing and cutting.....

Opt Polish for versatility.......

P.S. One of my normal routines is to use 2.5, and then clean up with Opt........
 
To be honest, I've never really liked Z-PC. When I first squirted the stuff out of the bottle it was very watery which I consider a good thing. However, the finish that it gives didn't impress me that much. I think it'd be a good idea if Zaino were to release a final finishing polish, maybe something like PO85RD.



Anyway, the Optimum polishes are from a different planet compared to the SSRs. Which is better? Don't ask me, I like them both. Just depends on the situation and what I'm doing.

SSRs have much better cut, but workability with a rotary and very little dusting are big pluses for Optimum.

For big jobs I'd still go with SSRs or Menzerna but OCP is really nice for light swirl removal and finishes up really clean.
 
How is optimum polish for minor swirls? Right now I've got SFX-2 and it works fairly well, but I think I'd like something a little more abrasive. I've been looking for a good pad/polish combo for most minor swirls brought on by imporoper car washes etc. Suggestions?
 
I agree with Patrick on the cut, just a bit more than 2.0 but with a cutting pad, closer to 2.5. Optimum finishes down at least as good at 2.0, maybe even a bit better. I like the long working time and the finish it leaves but for anything more than light swirls, I go with Optimum Compound or DACP.
 
to further segment the products, Opt is better used with a rotary as SSR line does not work well with a rotary and better with a da polisher



yes, SSR does beat z-pc in in its application, use and finish

After I read your comments, my conclusions are that with Optimum Compound is easier to obtain the cutting results that you want. And using SSR2 or 2.5 is very difficult to obtain the level of cutting that you want. I'm right?

Can you compare this with 1z UPP and Menzerna PG, please?

I want to remove swirls easier that I remove them with 1z UPP, because I needed 4 passes with UPP to remove them.

I have only PC, non a rotative.

You mentioned Optimum, but did not say if you bought their Hyper Compound as well. Comparing product line to product line, you also have to compare SSR 3 to Hyper Compound. On that note, I think SSR 3 actually provides slightly more cut than Hyper but Hyper finishes down better (leaves less haziness or rotary swirls). Actually, I have not found Hyper to be as aggressive as originally claimed by someone on this board; don't get be wrong, I absolutely love the stuff - just don't think it is as aggressive as advirtised. I have all of the SSR and Optimum abrasives and like the Optimum line a tad more, though I use a rotary a lot more often than a PC.
 
I've found that I enjoy using Optimum's polishes more than those made by Poorboy's. A major point that makes me like Opt more than PB is the lack of dusting. I HATE having to clean up dust out of all the nooks and crannies of cars, so having little to no dusting is a major plus in my book. I also like the long working time of the optimum polishes. You can apply the product, work it in, check your work, and if it doesn't suit you, go right back to polishing without having to add more polish. It saves product and time. IMO Opt > Poorboy's (though i haven't tried SSR3, but hyper compound is great)
