How do you reschedule after rain?

What do you (specifically mobile detailers) do when you are booked up and a rain day doesn't allow you to do work. How do you get those cars done as well as the ones the next day and so on?

Also, here they have said it's going rain almost every day, but it hasn't. On days like these I assume you guys wouldn't set up appointments, but would this just turn into a wasted day?

First thing i do is get pissed..hahha...i have the same problem, i try to get them in somehow, even if that means working longer than i want do. I usually try not schedule apts when it is supposed to rain heavily. If they call for a just a chance of showers, i still schedule them. We been getting calls for isolated t/storms everyday, but they usually never come, i just keep working until i start feeling drops, cuz you cant really trust a weather report.

Unless it is actually raining or the percentage is very high (70-100) I go out. If people want to cancel they can. If I finish they pay, if I don't they don't until I come back. Most of my business is weekly and biweekly wash customer. If it rains, I try to get them in the next day. If I can't then they miss a week. It is a pain in the butt when it rains though as the schedule always is messed up for a few days. If it rains for days on end then the schedule gets messed up for a couple of weeks while I play catch up.

Not a full answer but an idea: For jobs over $150, you could offer a "rain check" if you get the job done and it rains that day--just offer a free wash another time that week. That might keep cancellations from happening on iffy days.

I usually call them and tell them that I will schedule them on my next available date or if someones cancel I will call them and offer the that time slot. I usually leave Saturdays for re-schedule customer.

Rain definatly is a PITA. For me I always get good contacts from the client so I can call them and reschedule if needed. Im not that busy so it isnt that big of a problem.

Lately I have been including a coupon along with the invoice for 50% off an upkeep wash, for full detail customers.

It depends on whether it is a full detail or just a wash and such... If it is raining I will do my best to follow thru with the schedule. Meaning I ask if they have a garage or do it at my shop etc. Most of the time people have the mind set that they aren't going to pay for something and not see the results. So at that point I explain what it is that i do. I'm reconditioning the surface of the finish to restore its gloss or shine, I'm protecting it from the elements, etc.... They go well and then before they get another word out I offer them a rain check ON A CAR Wash. Think about it. If you can find away to convince your client to allow you to Detail his car that day it is a bonus because on a sunny day you will only have to wash his car and spend the additional free time detailing someone elses.

I guess this means nothing to you if all you do is offer Car Wash services though. In that case go to the movies. Cook your girl a nice meal. Clean your house. Read every article on this site. Shop for new stuff. Go to the mall watch the Women. Read poetry.

By far the best idea. Although, not only will I not be making money, I'll end up spending the little I have left.

Seriously though, thanks everyone for your responses. I'm pretty sure I'll know how to handle this now.
