I've heard a few different pronunciations. What's yours? Please let us know if you speak German or have some other useful credentials in the area. :)

It's German , wright?

then you would pronounce it Klasse,

like classroom , without the room but an "eh" like the second "e" in gentel

Class-eh

but I may verry well be wrong

KLAH-SEE [/b]
How did you find this out? Just curious :)

You mean KLAH-SEE like santa "KLAH"s + I "SEE" you?

I prefer "klah-zey". Or "klahhz-eh". Depends on where you put the emphasis, before or after the Z.

I honestly don't think it's "class" or "classy". Those just don't work with European accents.

Say the word while doing your best Col. Klink imitation and you'll be close.

Well, i'm not sure if anyone is right.. Me speaking German, and it being a german word, it SHOULD be pronounced (not sure im my pronunciation guide is correct)::::

KLA-SEH

'klas[inverted 'e' symbol]' and that the [inverted 'e' symbol' is the 'a' sound in 'above'. As a noun, it means 'class' (whoa!) but as an adjective it means 'smashing'.

Klass-a

bis spaater dann,

You asked about the pronunciation of Klasse. All characters in German
are pronounced. The 'a' is short because of the double 's' following.
The only difference between a short and long 'a' is how long you sound
it; both are like the 'a' in 'father'. 'ss' is pronounced as an English
single 's' whereas a single 's' is like an English 'z'. The final 'e' is
pronounced sort of like 'uh'. You've probably heard 'Porsche' pronounced
as 'Portia'. That's a pretty good approximation as long as the 'a' in
Portia is just a hint, not an 'ah'. So, the best I can represent the
pronunciation is 'klahs-uh', emphasis on the first syllable.

As a noun, it has the same meanings as the English 'class': grade,
quality. It's used as an adjective also as in English to mean top
quality: class act. Also in compound nouns: eine Klassefrau = a classy
lady, stunner.

According to the folks at Klasse Direct, it's pronounced:

Class-Say

And I'd bet they know what they're talking about.

I'm still with puterbum (and Pathfinderguy and cvcaelen) . Class-say sounds French, but if this stuff is German and made in Germany.....

I know a French lady taking German, I'll ask her! :xyxthumbs

Update: I asked her what was this word and she took one glance at it and said "Klas-uh" without hesitation. (I think now that she's taking Spanish and already knows German....) She also said it does just mean "class".

Trivia: In French there are ZERO words that start with "K" unless they are adopted foreign words! :)

I also just noticed that porterdog's pronounciation is also the same as the folks I mentioned before (short "a").... I'd say this is good consensus from German-speaking folk!

I took German in college, and it would be like the ending on Porsche - but there really is no way to pronounce it phoenetically in English...if you say "short" a, it really isn't correct...if you say uh, that is probably closer, but don't emphasize the uh so much (like you would if you looked at someone stupid and said "DUH!!")

Of course, you can pronounce it the German way, but if the makers of it say it is pronounced another way, then I guess it's hard to argue with that........:xyxthumbs

Great stuff though.......:bounce
