How do you polish things like: side skirts, spoilers, curvy bumpers, pillars, etc?

I'm new to the polishing scene and just ordered a Flex with a nice variety of CCS pads in 6.5", 1 4" orange and 1 4" white. I'm just wondering how you're supposed to polish the curvy and narrow parts of a car like the side skirts, front bumper, small spoilers etc. Is most of that stuff simply done by hand and the polisher is only meant for the bigger, flatter surfaces like hood, doors, roof, fenders, etc?

Thanks! I hope this goes well ... maybe I should practice on my parent's van first. :D

If the 4" pads are still too big then yes you can do it by hand. Another thing to note is some of these special pieces like plastic bumpers, spoilers etc may also have thinner paint, single stage paint or just might be a little more delicate than the hood, doors and roof. Considering that, doing these areas by hand can sometimes be considered a safer method. usually though, I still use the PC : ) but I've been in the situation where I totally switched from using the PC with one polish and then went to a differentpolish using a hand foam pad.

I often use the overlapping outer portion of larger pads. It's a lot safer with machines like the Flex 3401 than it is with a rotary. Sometimes though, yeah, you just have to do 'em by hand. With products like M105 on the market this isn't nearly as big a deal as it was a few years ago.
