How do you get rid of contaminants without requiring a rewash?

I'm not doing a full detail for another month (when the car goes into storage)... but want to get a coat of wax on for the interim.



There's some residue in a few spots on the car that i'll probably need a bug and tar to remove... but i don't want to have to wash the car again at this time.



Is there any way around it... or should i just leave it for now?

Not sure exactly... it's some sort of road grime... tar like...



I think i picked it up when the car was in for service... cosmoline?

But would a service department be using cosmoline for anything?



That and some bug bits...
 
Any good tar and bug remover will also remove your wax/sealant. If it didn't then it would not be a good cleaner. In other words you will need to rewax the area after removing the residue for paint protection.



Home supplies: wd 40 will remove tar and vinegar/water is and acid that can help with the bugs. Heck just get a can of TW bug and tar cleaner.
 
tommyd- *I* don't think you can get around the wash. Wash it, spot-clay the problems, put on the additional wax. Sometimes you just gotta wash 'em.
 
Maybe you could try QD if the car isn't otherwise really dirty. I've had some things on my car that look like tar/oil, but just found out it was some strange variety of bird dropping. :p



If QD doesn't get them out you'll probably have to spot clay like Accumulator suggests, or go to a bug and tar remover. In my own experience it seems that junk that doesn't come off with QD doesn't really come off that much better with a wash either.
 
I ended up using 'simple green' on the spots which worked only moderately...

i rewashed the areas... resealed and then waxed over...



that'll do until i do my full detail next month.
