How do you detail the "grooves" of tires?

zesty-man

how do ya like it?
hey, i was just wondering, is there a way to detail the grooves of tires? i mean, if theres anything that looks bad, its clean rims + dressed tires and dirty grooves of the tires. if you still dont know what i mean, heres a picture i stole from ranney (hope it wasnt copyright). the place circled is the place that im aiming to clean.

would this involve taking the tires off, meaning undoing the lug nuts and stuff?

NEVER put any tire dressing on your groves. That area is where your tires grip the road from many different designs and reactions with the rubber. By putting the dressing, you put a coat that will sometimes reflect dirt and even water. Thus, your rubber will be like plastic and the only grip you have is from the weight of the car.

Clean that area with a brush and a heavy cleaner. Then just leave it. Its over kill and dangerous honestly. :crazy

if it was for a show you could spray it with a dressing and aggitate with a brush...then use compressed air to blow out the remaining residue...for just detailing, as Woob said, just use an APC and a brush to get it clean:)

k, that sounds easy but hard at the same time. does that mean that i have to reach all the way to the back of the tire, and when the time comes, i have to move the tire so that i can do the compelte tire. whew, sounds like hard work for my young back :(.

btw, would comet be too heavy of a cleaner? thats what my mom conventionally used to clean her tires...

Those grooves are called tire treads people. :P Like everyone else said, be careful cause it will make for some very poor traction.

just use a APC and water do the best you can cause the tire tread is going to be on the pavment never use a dressing on tire tread

see, thats the problem. i dont really have an APC on me. i went to the store where i get everything, and there wanst any megs APC. however, i do have some 303 cleaner. does the 303 cleaner count as an APC?

Hi zesty-man...

I use ProWax "Frank's Cleaner" which is also a all purpose cleaner that was specifically designed for our "Hawaiian Red Dirt". It works very well on tires and wheels. Let me know if you want to try some out and we can meet up sometime. All I ask is that you bring with you a 32 oz spray bottle. :D

With Aloha,
Ranney :)

hmmm, thanks for the help ranney. when i come to pick up some four star stuff, ill be sure to bring my bottle with me. lets see what this stuff can do!!!

Unless you are detailing a vehicle for a show, then do not bother dressing the tread (this is hazardous for the driver). I would agree w/ others to use an APC.

Actually the grooves are called sipes and voids. The tread is the part that touches the pavement. :lmfao
