How do you clean your

I use the washing machine to wash and spin dry everything. I use a dedicated detergent to clean all my pads. Right now Charlie's Soap is my detergent of choice. Have used others. Honestly I recieved good results with the detergent that the wife buy's also. I just like to keep my detailing supplies and the house supplies seperate.

Dawn in the sink. Than I spin them dry in the washing machine and let then air dry. Works well for me. I never spin them dry on the PC. I found this to cause separation of the velcro from the pad.

Sorry but I should have wrote in my thread that I have the Edge 2000 pads. They are two pads glued to a plastic disk so that there are two pads in one.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PUT THEM IN PLASTIC BAGS WHILE THERE'S EVEN A HINT OF MOISTURE LEFT IN THEM...THEY'LL MOLD.

Guess how I know this...

I use rotary wool pads.

Throw them in the washer and use whatever laundry soap we got at the time.

If i'm on a job and need to clean one on the fly, i'll spray a little apc on one and hit it with my pressure washer. You wouldn't beleive how quick and easy it is to clean a pad this way. But i know in the long run i'll cause the wool, fibers to come off of the backing quicker then they would with regular washing.

how often is every1 washing/cleaning ur pads....i consider myself fairly new to the *buffing* world, i bought myself a makita 9227 polisher and still exp with diff pads/compounds/polishes, i have been using the edge pads (j-loop style) lately and love em so far. i have a variety of diff foam and wool pads...other than spurring, i have not done anything with them

edit...i have been using a polisher for almost a yr now :)

After a quick soak & wash in the sink w/DP Pad Rejuvenator to get most of the product out of them, they are now in the washing machine with today's towels. (Tonight I'm using Tide detergent, but looking forward to trying Charlies Soap.) I also add @ 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the rinse water. From there, they will all go into the dryer on low heat.
I do put the pads together into a "fine washable" bag - the Meguiar's pads I've been using seem to stand up to this just fine.

I have heard about the addition of vinegar to the rinse before. Other than staying at the washer and waiting for the rinse cycle, how do you manage to be at the washer at the appropriate time to add the vinegar?

I put it in the UNUSED* fabric softener dispenser which adds it to the final rinse.

* I haven't run FS through there for years & it's been throroughly cleaned out.

I guess that I am washing machine nube. Must get out the owner manual.

Now where did the wife put that thing?

i use soap in a bucket, aggitate by hand than rinse with garne hose. i let them air dry or blow dry with a compressor.

I usually let them soak in soapy water over night then blast them with the hose the next morning, they always come out great.
When I need to clean a pad while I'm working, I hold the trigger down and use a clean white towel wrapped around my fingers to run across the pad while it's moving. It cleans the pad suprisingly fast and it only takes a few seconds :)
