How Do You Clean Your Tire and Rim Brushes?

Hello all i have the following brushes:

Black Magic Tire Brush

Black Magic Rim Brush

Black Magic Wheel Spoke Brush

Meguiars Wheel Spoke Brush



I have been using them on my car and have been very happy with them but the other day i cleaned a car that had thier rims and tires FILTHY... Well needless to say it turned my brushes black and i would like to know what is the best way to clean them.



Maybe let them sit in soapy water for a a day or buy some sort of degreaser?



I also bought the Sonus Tire & Wheel Bundle and it came with a Blue Terry Applicator and it got pretty filthy. I am wondering as to what you guys would use to clean that.

I live in Miami, Fl .... where can i get a degreaser locally or where should i get it from online?



Are all degreasers the same or is there a specific one recommended by most?



Will the degreaser break down the paint or the rubber on the brushes?

I just soak mine in simple green for a while in a 5 gal bucket, and hose off with high pressure. Simple green is easy to come by just about anywhere.

Do you cut the simplegreen with water at all?



Please if anyone knows of any other products or a product they feel is better let me know..

Here we have stores called Dollar General. You can get a gallon of Mean Green for $5. Better than Simple Green.
 
I guess ill check around for Mean Green and if not then Simple Green



If anyone knows of a product worth getting from an online e-store please let me know..

Home Depot carries ZEP citrus cleaner and degreaser. It's about 8 bucks for a gallon.



When my brushes get really grunged, I mix up a solution of the Zep and warm water and let them soak overnight, then rinse them out with clear cold water. They come out nice and clean! :xyxthumbs
 
I remember from my first job out of highschool (painting.... houses walls not cars) that china bristle (boar hair) get very brittle and get destroyed unless thoroughly rinsed your cleaning product after you finished cleaning them with what ever chemicals.



For oil based paints we used thinner, hot water and dawn soap then spent 20 min rinsing after we saw no more paint.



for water based paints we used hot water and soap. same rinsing system



after rinsing them we allways wrapped them so the bristles did not get dinged up.

ZEP citrus cleaner and degreaser @ Home Depot ( Thank you Gonzo0903)



Mean Green @ Dollar General (Thank you MDRX8)



Simple Green @ ? (Thank you Flat-6)



For now unless anyone adds anything else to this i think ill go with ZEP Citrus Cleaner and Degreaser since i have a Home Depot close by... I also have a PEP Boys and an AutoZone close by so anyone else can chime on in if they want...

I use Simple Green to clean my wheels with a spray bottle. I always spray the wheel first then I spray the brush bristles. I rinse the wheel and brush after each wheel and repeat for the next wheel. I have found that spraying the brush bristles with Simple Green is an effective way of preventing the wheel grime from adhering to the bristles.
 
I am going to get ZEP citrus cleaner and degreaser simply because i know where to get it... Does anyone have any experiences with this on thier rims and tires?
