How Do I Remove Defects from my paint?

I purchased a 2007 Toyota 4 Runner Limited last April. The hood and roof area above the windshield is covered in specks and spots that show up white on top of my Salsa Pearl Red paint. Since I've had it I clayed it twice and purchased a PC7424XP and applied Meguiar's 105, 205. The hood is shiny and smooth except for the spots. I spoke with Kevin at BuffDaddy.com and he recommended that I go over the hood again with more Megs 105 and applying more pressure. I Completed the 105 application the second time and the results did not improve. If anyone has any ideas of what I can try next please give me some direction. I was also considering sanding with a 1500 and 3000 Grit sanding disk on my PC then use Megs 105, 205. :help:

The clear can fail anywhere. :)



At this age (5 years) I doubt it



Could you post a sun picture of the areas so we could see?

It's toast!

The paint system, where the spots are, are eaten clear through to the ecoat and some spots, the metal.

Bodyshop time, no buffing is going to replace paint that isn't there.

Probably due to some sort of acidic bug residue or such.

With the shape it is in would it hurt for me to try the sanding method? Starting with 1500 Grit then 3000 Grit and finally use my Meguiar's #205.
 
In those "spots" there is not base coat either, and the primer is gone in some as well.

Also noticed large patches of the clearcoat failing in addition to the etching.

Thank you all for your direction and feedback on this issue I have. I would have preferred to repair it myself, but it looks like I'll have to get some estimates from the local body shops when I can afford to have it repaired someday. For now I'll just keep it cleaned and waxed. I cant afford to have body work done on somthing I'm still making payments on which is why I was hoping to repair it on my own.

distilled white vinegar 30-50 seconds, rinse, clay, compound, wetsand, buff, polish. i hope its not etched to the point where the paint or even primer is gone. Best of luck!
