How do I fix.... THIS?

This is on both of the panels, one each side of the vehicle. Previous owner (or dealer?) removed whatever sticker these were with a razor, leaving tons of these scratches and marring. I tried goo-be-gone to see how much would come off, but its all damaged, severely.

Not sure what material this is.. whether its a piece of fiberglass, or glass, or what. But. It's an eyesore.

Tell me there is something I can do here, short of repainting?

The black trim is a whole other story. Thinking Poorboy's World Trim..

The glass should easily polish out to remove the residue, but removing the scratches can be pretty difficult. Tape up the surrounding trim and try using a light to medium compound/heavy polish.

Agreed, its gonna take some medium to heavy compounding followed by a medium to light polish to finish it up. Of course, tape up the trim before starting as well :)

After you polish that black "plastic?" section, take some Klasse AIO over the rubber trim in the pic. Try a small spot first, but it should work well to restore the look of it. I'll just use a foam of MF applicator, rub over it good and then just wipe off any excess with a separate towel.

NOTE: I believe the paint tends to be pretty thin on those black plastic pieces. I would focus more on restoring gloss rather than removing the scratches 100%. It's usually single stage paint too.

The Klasse AIO should give results similar to this

Thanks guys. I'm thinking M105/M205, followed by a PO203S polish perhaps? Unless you differ?

I might have been incorrect here, since all three are a polish..

Starting to lean towards PO85RD + PO106FA + BFWD, which is what i was thinking of doing on the entire vehicle anyway.

The only thing that will polish glass is iridium dioxide, a glass polish like shat-r-proof will polish, but to get scratches out you will need to get a professional glass polisher out with industrial machine.

I don't think it's glass John. ;)

DatacomGuy....what make/model car is that? Do you have a zoomed out pic?

I have fixed (made less noticible) wiper scratches in glass with diamond granite polish and a felt pad (hard). I mix the diamons with polish like Megs 205 and then apply to the windshield, and work it with the felt pad on a rtary. My felt is about 4" diameter. It takes a lot of time and if the scratches are deep it will distort the vision through the glass. I am a stickler for a clean windshield. The granite polish is about $20 for enough to do 1000 cars. I have only done this on winshields that I was prepaired to through away if it didn't work. If the car is a classic I would recommend a pro like John said. If it is a beater go ahead and try yourself. If you send me your address.. I could send you some of the polish that you can try so you don't have to shell out $20 before you try to see if it works.:chuckle:

Yeah the more I think about it, the less I think its glass. I think its just painted.

2008 Saturn Outlook XR. No pics on me, but i can take some later. Its part of both rear dears.

No need to take pics, just wanted to know what kind of vehicle it was. It should be the same material as the two vertical trim pieces where the front and rear doors meet. ;)

Found a pic.. yep, looks to be the same. This is just a painted plastic or FB i guess?

Treat them both the same as the regular painted surface, correct? Just as if it were body pieces?

Yep. What polisher and pads do you have?
