How Crazy Are You?

My wife has always considered me about a half a bubble off plumb. I readily accept that description. When I took the vehicles to the next level after finding this site, she flipped about the amount of time and energy spent on my truck. ( She was not aware of the money) I am in the process of doing her 98 Windstar. She cannot believe the results. She asked me why her van was a different color. <grin> I told her that I was removing all the crap that prevented seeing what color her van truely was. When I traded in my 10 year old truck with 171K on the clock, the owner of the dealership did the test drive. Afterward, he asked me if I painted the underside of it. I told him yes, because it made it so easy to get the mud, etc off it after being off road. OC should be considered a worthy goal, and not an illness.

I have people say they tell their wife here comes Denny. They can tell from a 1/4 mile away my cars gleam. So I hand wash them every 2 days. A clean car is a Happy car. One friend said it looked as if my car was dropped into a parking lot is was so clean and bright compared to the other cars. Now that's worth all the moeny I spend on products. I am very lucky to have Hot and cold water, a floor drain, gas and electric heat, and a bath room in my garage. Why would I ever move. To get a bigger garage of coarse.

I once drove from NJ to Florida, 22 hours non stop (other than Gas) just to wash and wax a new car I got in November of 02. The weather here didnt look like I would have a chance to get a full deatil in for at least a few months. I would get some looks when while fueling people with NJ plates would ask if im heading to Disney and I would say nah just heading down to wax my car and then right back.

when I got back we were hit with a few weeks of unseasonably warm weather too.....

I have once waxed my frame on my truck. My dad came in the garage to play ping-pong and took one look and walked back out shaking his head! Oh how I love how people think I am crazy.

I think I'm considered craziest when I'd be more prone to do the winter olympics in the temperature I'm detailing in.

my GF used to think i was crazy then i showed her some things and now she finds it interesting. The bad thing is now she's my biggest critic. You missed a spot here, thats it your done no topper. I knew i shouldnt have told her everything. Shes also like "look at those swirls on that car" while were driving. Im like hey whose the detailer here me or you :D

Milky - What kind of Mazda is that in your avatar? Protege?

hi, it's a Mazda 3. :)

I decided to wash my car around midnight yesterday and all my mom could do was nod her head in amazement. Pretty cold too :)

I was supposed to go to a party but felt like washing the car instead :D

Wow. Maybe you should have waited until spring 03 to buy the new car?

I hate to say this, but I'm a slob in my office. I gave up doing more than making sure there's space on the floor to walk to my desk.

But I like keeping the car clean and shiny. I bought that toy and I want to remain good-looking for as long as possible.

I think the contrast between the two really drives my wife nuts.

You know the realy sick part, I was planning on driving down the week between Christmas and New Years again this year, just to get a few coats of SG on it. Illness in te family kept me here. Before 911 I could pull my car into the Hangars at the airport and wax to my hearts content, not anymore sad to say.

Im debating offering a local garage a few bucks to let me polish and seal with a lift indoors.

If you live in UK you often have no choice but to wash in the rain!!!

Actually it makes good sense as the rainwater loosens the dirt for you and theres no need/no point in drying it off afterwards!!

I have 2 shelfs full of various cleaning products (just cant resist trying something new) and probably have enough to last the rest of my life!! most bottles are nearly full!!!

Oh I also have 4 battery powered polishers and a porter cable 7424, and around 20 pads, is this some type of record????
