How Can a Bodyshop Go This Wrong?

Swoop-the lowest estimate my brother got to fix his truck right was $8500 and that assumed nothing had to be replaced, and that was highly unlikely. The paint thickness ranged from 17 to 41 mils thick, the door jams and wheels were absolutely caked in overspray-there was even overspray on the interior door panels! The hood was replaced with an aftermarket hood but on the receipt they listed an OEM hood, plus his whole engine was covered in overspray too, but the biggest problem was the paint didn't even match! It was a 3 month old truck!. 3 times they had his truck and each time it looked worse. He offered to let them do it a forth time but he wanted them to cover a rental for the 30-45 days they needed to keep his truck and they refused. Bad choice on their part, after my brother sued them, they had to pay $10,000 plus whatever their lawyer fees were.

I totally dont get overspray! It is completely unacceptable! They have invented this nifty stuff years ago called spray mask. You tape off the area to be repaired and spray everything else with this stuff. After your repair has been made you wet the vehicle down and the mask becomes soap to wash it off with. Or you could actutually mask off things not to be painted. I dont get why people leave the shop with paint all over their muffler! Its so obvious when you have had the rear end repainted at a quickie shop, muffler all covered in paint....ugh.
