I have to narow it down to four all equal in their amazingness;
The wifes current ride, a Subaru XT Sports Forester with the WRX 224 hp turbo; stupid fast ( and I mean really stupid fast) , 30 mpg if you can keep off the fun pedal and with the added ability to go through 16" of snow with no problem-PLUS enough clearance to venture onto some pretty rough roads.
We had a Freightliner Sprinter van, camper conversion, with the I5 MB diesel, we could get 28mpg any day, all day long.
My three VW TDI's, the original 90 hp 1.9, would you believe 62 mpg, and quick enough to boot.
The '07 Ford Powerstroke 6.0 that is in the E450 rv is a strong contender; its moving about 12,000 lbs and punching a fair hole in the atmosphere but still gets 14-16 mpg and doesn't use a drop of oil... I know that this doesn't sound like good fuel mileage, but if were a gasser we would be lucky to be getting 8 mpg.....
Well I guess its five, I forgot about my brothers '84 RX 3 which I got to use alot-amazing in both power, smoothness-the shift beeper was necessary, but mostly amazing in its fuel consumption; how any engine could use so much fuel and still run that good is still a mystery.
