hot car when to wash

I know not to wash one in the sun or when the car is hot. So how long do you guys wait to wash it? What do you professionals do when one is hot? I am planning to clean my mother-in-laws Enclave this coming week with her cleaning stuff she got with the Enclave. She will come to my house late mourning about 1 hr away. I am going to pop the hood up and use a box fan to help cool the motor and clean the inside. Does anyone know how tall they are,not sure if it will fit in my garage. thanks

you can do it when its hot but you may end up doing one panel at a time to keep the soap from drying on you .. also KEEP THE PAINT WET AT ALL TIMES .. you can do it just work fast. good luck

Try to position the vehicle in some shade. If there is none and you are doing a hose and bucket wash, the water from the hose will cool off the panels. If you are doing a rinseless wash, you still might want to hit the paint with the hose for a second. I know that defeats one of the benefits of rinselss washing, but it's still a thought. If I am without shade, then I pull out the portable canopy.

Are you going to be doing some engine bay clean-up or are you just trying to help to dissipate some of the heat being transferred to the hood?

Early in the morning or later in the evening is when I try and wash during the hotter months of the year. If you can't do that, try and get in some sort of shade. If all else fails, keep the hose handy to keep the vehicle wet the entire time you are washing.

I know that the front of the Enclave will go in but not sure of the top will fit. I wll be using water. Depends on when she gets here but I plan to pull it in the garage and pop the hood and use the fan. Then i will start vac and clean the inside. Hopefully it will be cooled off wash then,I may have to do the front when I wax/polish and then back it in and do the back.

Here is my process for washing in direct sunlight.....
I position the car where one side is shady and try to get either the front end or back end of the car in the shade as well. (Use the car to cast it's own shadow)

I start with the wheels and tires first. Get them clean, then move to the front of the car to remove any bugs. I try to not wet the windows.
Washing- I will wet the shady side of the car, soap, and rinse. Then move to the back or front, whichever is in the shade the most. Soap and rinse. I go back to wet the shady side.
Wet the sunny side, wash fast, rinse, wash, rinse. I then re-wet the whole car again, shut off the pressure washer, grab 5 or so drying rags and start drying.

I'll dry the sunny side first. Half the hood, fender, roof, glass, doors, quarter panel, then move around to the other side. I usually have to run back over with a QD to chase drips and runs that dry up.
It sucks washing in the sun, but I have a method down that works for me.
