Horror/amusing stories of PC @ 6?

PC @ 6 = Ludicrous speed
Wondering if anyone out there has any stories of using the PC @ 6? Bonnets and pads flying away, being dragged down the street, products slinged all over the car, one forearm larger than the other? :D
 
I use the PC at 6 on a very regular basis; I've NEVER had a problem with any of what you just described.



For nearly every customer vehicle I detail, it takes either #83 or #82 at speed 6 to correct the swirling and scratches (I tend to get some really nasty restoration cases) but with my Meguiar's W8006 polish pads and 3M Hook-it backing plate, the pad's going nowhere and nither is the product since I work it in a couple passes at 3.5-4 and then bump up to 6 for the remaining time.



As for the forearm thing, I do note that my right arm is noticeably larger than my left even though I'm left handed. That, though, I think is just from the work I do by hand (Sealant/Wax LSP's, interiors) not so much the PC.

The W-DA64 backing plates are HORRIBLE!! I absolutely hate them, I went through two before finally giving up to get this 3M one I'm working with now, and I've never once had any problems with it. I used one of my buddy's PCs the other day when I was over there helping with his car, and he has the megs plate. I quickly remembered how much and why I hated the backing plate. Pad kept flying off even at speed 2.5!! :mad:
 
Agreed. Meg's backing pad sucks. I have one of the yellow "flex" ones and it grips so tight I am worried it will tear the felt right off the pad when I remove it. I pretty much work at 6 all the time too. I smear the product evenly over the area I am going to work without the PC on, and then go at it right away at 6.
 
I picked-up a PC last year & was using it for the 2nd or 3rd time when my story occured.



I was using a 6.5" LC pad & speed was 5 - 5.5 and the extension cord got caught under a tire and unplugged the PC when I gave it a subtle yank.



I set the PC down (pad facing up) and reconnected the extension cord which, naturally, fired-up the PC. I found out that the velcro will hold the pad on the backing plate for only so long.



First, I found out what "slinging" meant and then the pad launched into the snowthrower, off the wall, just missed the car & ended up on the front lawn .... pad facing up.



Guess the beveled edge of the LC pad made it kind of aerodynamic & it did a pretty good impression of a Frisbee.



Some lessons you just have to learn the hardway.

Agreed! My yellow flex plate has a very tight grip on the pad, especially after I've worked a panel pretty hard!

That flex plate kinda sounds like how my 3M one is... I might go for that flex plate when I get one for rotary usage (gotta happen soon, that's for sure).
 
OT - Shiny lil' let me know if you want to check out a dewalt rotary before you choose one to buy ( I am assuming you dont have one yet). I am in Grand Rapids so I am not to far from you.



I have not had a pad fail or slung product from a PC yet. No mishaps and I always polish on "6". My arm does go numb like mentioned above after a few hours of use though.
