hey guys, ive always wanted to really make the stang pop, but im selling it in the spring so will have to nail the leather to make it look really good...

i just bought an 05 silver ACCORD and 04 SILVER ODYSSEY...

i LOVE the look of balck all done up, but will never own again... i like the amount silver hides...

ANYWAY.... have a new born and budgets are tight, but looking for some quality products..

i think im set on getting ZAINO contidioner for the smell, even though ive read cleaning is what makes it last??

i was thinking of getting Z2, Z5 AND Z6 and aerospace 303 for interior and tires??

speaking of tires...stangs are REALLY FADED AND DULL...

never used a polish before, is it really worth it for silver, adn ED drivers?? not show cars

ill be doing all work by hand, so please keep that in mind... there is soooo much out there... POORBOYS, CHEMICAL GUYS, KLASSE ECT...ect..

BY THE LOOKS OF IT, im guessing P21s is what i want for a wax regardless...

anyway, if you could please give me some dircetions...much appreciated...

i just read how to properly wash a car here...lol..... noob indeed...lol

phatkid77- Welcome to Autopia!

I always have a few silver vehicles and for *me* the polishing/etc. is no different from any other color (it's just harder to inspect for flaws). The sort of very minor imperfections that aren't readily visible on silver still detract for its appearance.

But that's just *ME* and I'm kinda fanatical about this stuff. Silver is very easy to keep at the ~75-80% level and maybe you'd be happy with that. IF that's the case, I'd use something like Zaino's AIO topped with Collinite wax or FK1000P (or, OK...Zaino Z2 or somesuch). Let the mild abrasives in the ZAIO do the polishing and say "good enough".

Don't bother topping with a wax. Use Collinite wax if you want, but if you go with a sealant instead don't bother putting wax on top. The improvement on silver isn't worth the way a coat of wax precludes adding more sealant later (it won't bond to the wax). You might even want to stop after the ZAIO and not bother putting *anything* on top of it but IME it doesn't really last long enough for that.

Tires: I really, really like Griot's Rubber Prep; expected it to be snake oil but nope, it's good stuff. I'd clean with that and then use Z16 (my fave for tires, and yeah I've used 303). Yeah, it costs a bit but I bet you'd only have to use it once and then you could clean the tires with something cheaper before refreshing the Z16.

Dunno what to tell you on the leather as I don't like my interiors smelling like a leather store (I want 'em to smell like Audis/Mazdas/whatever and every make seems to smell a little different). I use Leather Master stuff these days based on what some experts here have posted but plenty of people do like the Zaino stuff. But IME leather doesn't really need much other than cleaning.

thanks alot man!! yeah im the 80%er....haha, while id love to polish and all that...but it would likely only happen once...

so, zaino AIO...is this better than say KLASSE>>?

collinite...the super double autocoat?? this is better than P21 i take it. and Z2>?.

yeah, your posts is what i read regarding the cleaning and conditioning leather... costco carries leather master, so i was thinking getting the kit from there as well....try both...then make a decision on which i prefer...

tires... Z16..check... better than poorboys all natural dressing?

thanks alot man...for both the welcome and advice..

I would reccommend the Colonite 845IW for silver. lasts like crazy, cheap enough and looks great. i use ultima on my black car and colonite on my wifes silver truck. I would just clay the surface to remove contaminants, if you need to clean /remove oxidation use a any All in One or Mothers paint prep and oxidation remover you can get locally and then colonite 845IW. Apply this thin as thick is a waste of time and $$$$$$. I usually do a pannel move to next, then remove 1st, apply to 3rd and then remove 2nd pannel. I like to let the first coat cure 1-2 hours in the sun if possible and add another coat same day. i apply a 3rd the next day and then you are done for months. i did my wifes truck August 08 and I planned on dong another coat before the winter but it was still going strong so i let it ride. Still going strong.

Key is in the prep.

Collinite 476 or 845. The 476 is a paste that offers more durability than the 845 but is a little harder to work with. The 845 is a liquid that is easier to work with (after you shake the bottle VERY thoroughly) and is slightly less durable than the 476. Both will last a very long time compared to P21. P21 is a great looking wax, but will only last 3-4 weeks and cost a lot more than the Collinites. Which ever Collinite you choose, apply them VERY thin (especially the 476) and they will be much easier to work with. If you apply the 476 too heavily, it is a pain to get off.

Z16 and PB's BnB are both water based dressings, which will allow you to adjust the shine level according to your preference, but that also makes them less durable than other tire dressings. You won't get any tire sling with them either. I like and recommend both. I don't like the shiny & goopy look that you get from some of the solvent based dressings.

If you go with Zaino, go with ZAIO first then Z2. Get some Z8 to use after washes (optional). Klasse is nice but not if your using the Zaino system. If you are going to only polish once, I would skip ZAIO personally and just go straight to Z2

The mild abrasives in ZAIO are at least *functinally* noticeable, which is more than I can say for the *incredibly* mild ones in the Klasse. Since you're not gonna go nuts with this stuff they oughta give you just enough correction to make the paint shine nicely even if you don't do a "real" polishing job. And they're mild enough that you can use the ZAIO as a paint cleaner now and then if/when you find that just redoing the LSP (Last Step Product, i.e., wax or sealant) isn't getting the look you want.

On the Collinite, I use both 476S and 845. I find that in *some* cases the 845 just isn't very durable...no idea why and most people get great durability from it. The 476S simply *is* durable and it hides some minor imperfections that might otherwise be obvious if you use something like Z2. No, I dunno how it compares in that way to Z5 :nixweiss

I think of Z2 the same way I think of Klasse's sealant- really only for paint that's in basically flawless condition. IF that's not in the cards I'd rather go with Collinite.

thanks EVERYONE... very nice taking the time to help.. and thanks for the LSP explanation. wondered what the stood for...lol

i had help coming to this conclusion..

zaino AIO

and collinite 476

going to get a bottle of Z2 to see if i see "anything" different

and i do want Z6 for after washes., between AIO....

alot simplier than what i had running thru my head...lol

phatkid77- Glad you got some helpful feedback.

Note that since sealants don't stick to waxes (but waxes *do* work fine over sealants), you'll want to try the Z2 right after the ZAIO. In other words, don't do the Collinite and then try to use Z2 over top of it.

It could be interesting to do one panel with the Collinite an adjacent one with the Z2 and live with them both for a while, see which one *you* prefer.

roger that... and pardon my lack of knowledge...BUT if i did the whole car in collinite, and the next time she was do for a wash and wax.... could you apply the Z2...or do you need to do a DAWN strip???

also, im thinking maybe perhaps the Z5 as it has swirl properties.however subtle??

phats

Z5 will not do anything for swirls, Z2 gives the best look on silver in my opinion. Z6 is a great option for silver after washes. Me tho, if Im doing ZAIO, I'm going Z2 Pro and not 476, nothing against 476 but Z2 is made to inter twine with ZAIO.

thanks for the advice man... Z2 it is..

if i may muddy the waters...

lets talk car wash... i think i have crap rain x or somechit from crappy tire...lol...did have zymol from there too...

also, in the spirit of sending, the foam guns really intrigue me... not so much if i am using a $20 wash and need 4 oz per car....lol

discuss...

pahtkid77- Well, I'm probably the *last* guy to ask when it comes to doing stuff economically :o

That said, I go for the best shampoo I can find. Best in the sense of encapsulation and lubricity while still being gentle on my LSP.

For years I just bought whatever was cheap, but I find that better shampoos cut down the wash-induced marring in a big way.

I use Griot's, very pricey. But the Duragloss stuff is supposed to be almost as good and (assuming you can find it up there) it oughta be a lot cheaper.

Even Meguiar's Gold Class or NXT is probably OK if you're using a foamgun. I used Meg's #62 for quite a while before going with Griot's, and it's not too expensive if you buy it in gallons.

Since your on the Zaino site, Z7 is a top tier wash although not the most economical if you do alot of cars. Or google your local area and find "Carquest", stop in and look for Duragloss 901 shampoo. Good stuff.

+1 Agreed.

I've posted that "Duragloss is almost as good" bit so often that I'm almost tempted to try it myself :o

phatkid77- I never even heard of "spray 9" but then I dunno from Zaino except for their AIO and Z16

ill keep my dumb questionis here...lol

well, my products arrived from mike at zaino... 1 day..wow quick!!!

anyway, i HAD to try the leather cleaner and conditioner...smells pretty good...

now, is it like the paint produts, can be used sparringly?? i think i used too much, but i figured more is better on leather... but once my cotton cloth was damp it was almost like i didnt need to use more product...but i did..
