Honda - removing swirl marks

O3 Accord, taffeta white paint. Previous owner passed along extensive swirl marks all over the car, not sure how deep but you can easily see them from 6-8 feet away under several coats of Collinite 476 and DWG. Have been over the car with Turtle Wax Polishing Compound, have also used Meguiars Paint Cleaner. I know that the Honda clear coat and paint are thin and soft. What have you Honda owners (and people who have worked on Hondas) used to remove your swirl marks? I have to work by hand most of the time, only rarely get to work in a relative's driveway where I would have AC power available. Thanks for your counsel.

Removing "extensive" swirl marks from the entire car is going to require a machine. Don't know what to tell you if your only option is doing it by hand.

If they are really bad, even by hand on the soft Honda could take you a while.

As an example:

My FBP was hammered, took around 20 or so hours via PC and 4 inch pads.

Two separate rounds.

1. OHC - LC yellow - x1

106FF - LC orange - x1

A couple months later I came back to finish what I started with:

2. SIP/OC - Edge yellow - x1

106FF - Edge green - x1

solvent wipedown, followed by RMG for some pop.

I didn't get everything out and I don't expect to.

Is yours that bad?

I always seem to remember Accumulator recommending 1Z stuff for hand use. Maybe do a search on that.

Is that a single stage paint? I seem to remember someone posting that that it was (also curious since my '04 Odyssey has the same paint).

Some say that Honda Taffeta white is ss but I have my doubts. My moms 10 year old Accord is Taffeta white and it's never been waxed or sealed and shows zero signs of ss paint fade. I could swear there is a clear coat on it.

Impressive results, Brad. I don't know how my swirl problems would compare, don't have a photo.

I believe that Honda did put on a clearcoat on our Accord. Also on the previous generation (don't know about what they did before the 1998 models). Remember hearing that from the body shop we use.

Will look into 1Z as Brad suggests.

I had good luck removing swirl marks and scratches by hand on my wife's 97 Escort using Megs M105 with a MF applicator and then a coat of ColorX also applied with some passion. It was a bear of a job, but the results were very good.

Saw an '06 Odyssey in Taffeta white when I was buying my '08 and it was chalky as all hell. I've worked on an '02 Taffeta white Accord that was SS. It may be like Lexus where some of the jet black cars are SS and some not. It might depend on where they're assembled or something. If it's SS it's going to need a rotary to get it right or a whole lot of time with any other method.

I was just going to suggest this method. Its what I use to do spot testing for customers when there isn't any power around :)

I'll think some on this...thanks for the suggestions. May be best to schedule a session with a detailer who has a PC and the experience and facilities to do the job well.

Not a bad idea if the swirl marks are extensive. To save a few bucks you could always wash and clay the car yourself, have the pro do the polishing then do the sealants or waxes yourself which are not difficult by hand.
