Ok my coworker purchased a new Honda pilot along with 2 other coworkers a total of three. Two of the coworkers talked him into getting this life time sealant offered by Honda . Can anyone elaborate on the sealant Honda has to offer, My Coworkers say the sealant is applied right at the stealership he is under the impression the sealant is applied like a spray

I've try to talk to him until i'm Blue in the face that there is no such thing as a Life Time Sealant Protection, Can you guys better inform me in regards to this upcharge dealers are selling and what process is used.

Pei did say at one time there was a sealant that was used and baked at 700 deg temps?

Not sure of the lifetime sealant.

We purchased an Accord over a year ago. They tried to sell us the first place finish which carried a five year warranty. I point blank asked the sales manager what's up with the five year gig. He said it's a warranty on the paint not a five year wax. The warranty also covered the leather and carpets from stains and damage. Of course we had to use only their products at the required interval. The bottles might be 16-20 oz, which were probably pretty expensive to replace over the course of the five year warranty. I told him we would pass. I also landed some work from their used car side.

When we purchased our Civic several years back, the dealership was pushing First place finish products too. Maybe the dealer you're referring to uses another outfit for products.

Scrub, told him to ask Honda if or what he has to do to maintain the sealant in order to keep the warranty. He's wants to Deatil the Honda after the sealant is applied it makes no sense to me. I wonder if i detailed the Honda if it would void the warranty they offer. This is something he needs to ask. I'm curious to know what type of sealant is offered and how they apply it, what he has to do to maintain it.

I wonder if it is one of deals where you bring it in yearly and they redo the finish for a xtra charge beside what the package cost originally....and they sell you maintanace products..in the long run you paid alot of cash out....

I could not see a a sealant being baked on at 700*....it would melt the plastics and body seam caulking...lenses...and wires..and what else will not take that heat....unless they just flash it in a heated chamber..for a minute...or less....

Joe,

I would explain it to him like, as a professional detailer, when I wax my car I apply the wax 2-3 times. The reason for that is not to make it more protective but to make sure I got all the paint covered with a decent layer of wax. As you would know when appling wax the amount of product varies from section to section as when you start to apply the wax you got alot of wax on your applicator and as you apply it you have less and less then you put more product on your applicator and sometimes you might miss a few place. Another thing is ask him how much it is. I know there are a few dealerships that sell that service/option and its in the range of $350 - 600 canadian. They only warranty it for the life of the vehicle as long as you own it. Gives your car no added value if you sell it, like rustproofing and extended warranties sometimes do. Then ask him how long he plans to keep his pilot. Then offer him your services. If he keeps his car for 5 years you might be in the same price range as the paint protection and you will do a great job each time. (you clay/wax 1-2 times a year) One other thing to mention to him is that I have never once seen a dealership fix a problem that is warrantied through the option you purchased. they always give the customer the run around on how its not covered do to this and that.

anyways

I hope this helps you out in someway

Cheers
Chris

Sure it has a lifetime warranty on it.... As long as you bring it every 4 months for 'refreshing' then it will last forever. It's kind of like my 'always clean wax' that I put on my car. As long as I wash it whenever it gets dirty then it always looks clean. Talk about a miracle product!!

Anything that lasts for life isn't a product I want. Not even your paint will last for life, so I can't imagine that something that comes in a bottle will outlast the paint.

My Dad bought one if these 1 time. The catch was 80 bucks a year to get it redone. It never looked as good as a car detailed as we do it and I ended up having to take care of it as they did nothing else to keep it clean. $499.99 and 80 a year would go a long way with a detailer and would actually be better even if just sealed once a year.

For that kind of money, the client's vehicle would be ready for a daily visit to Pebble Beach :lmfao

5 years @ 80 = 400. $499.99 initial = $899.99. I think that would buy a lot
of elbow grease.

Thanks fot taking the time to add some insight,My daughter went through the same exact headache with Dodge, plus it was a $100.00 everytime she brought the car in for service. I think i'll call Honda to ask them about there sealant to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks everyone

Joe, I read that Teflon needed to be baked at 145degrees to work, although I'm sure it still does something in the meantime. In otherwords, unless your hood has a heat guard, probably your hood will be baked and nothing else.

In PEI, nothing can hold up to the environment for life.
