Honda Paintwork

Yeah, I also agree that Japanese Hondas are better.

We have an Ohio 2005 Pilot, and there are some noticeable interior fit/finish problems...:(

Paint on all Japanese cars stinks, IMO. Nissan is the worst!

However, I just saw a new RL the other day, and it had nearly flawless black paint!:D I couldn't find any OP or defects, except for owner/dealer-installed swirls.:)

And ebpcivic, I too am a Honda loyalist, even though I appreciate Toyota for its build quality and solidity, and Nissan for their very nice V6s...

Our Pilot has been flawless in our everyday uses, plenty of room, plenty of power, although still returns best in class fuel economy, and a very comfortable ride, and a great value(something Toyota stills need to work on with its limitless pricey options!).

I'm really looking forward to the turbo-charged Acura RDX small SUV!!!! My mom's lease will probably be up just in time to have her consider one! Yay!

I agree with what most of you have been saying. My '91 Accord was made in Japan, and it is still pretty tight even today. My wife's new Accord and my TL were both made in the US, and frankly I can tell the difference. Don't get me wrong, they are still both very nice and have been dead reliable, but it feels like something is missing. It's not just Honda though. My dad's Tundra doesn't feel like it is put together as well as some of his older Toyota's were. Oh well, I guess that is just the reality of buying a car today.

zey,

I just purchased a 06 Civic. I've washed it a few times, clayed it, polished, glazed it and waxed it 2X, i.e went over every millimeter of the exterior. The car was built in Japan (not Marysville, OH). The panels and the factory paint are absolutely perfect. As good as my new 1999 Porsche 911 was from Germany. So I'm curious.

What country built/assembled your dad's Accord?

Dang, Lucky! I purchased a 05 Civic EX last year and there are tons of probs with the paint and it was manuf in the US. I'm going to be handing this down to my daughter in the next couple of weeks and getting an 06 Civic, and all they have on the lot are US manuf ones. I wonder if my dealership will search out a Japanese made one for me. Although, since we are here in the midwest (about 50 miles from Marysville) and you are closer to a port, odds are we don't see many Japanese made Honda's around here. Ugh.

What color and make did you get? What chemicals are you using? I haven't decided yet what color to get. My 05 is a magnesium metallic, so I'd like to stay away from silver and gray metallic.

Excellent VIN decoding link. If you don't have the window sticker handy you can use the VIN number. The first digit corresponds to the various countries. For the sake of this discussion: 1=USA and J=Japan. The second digit is the manufacturer and then you get into plant codes and model codes and then the serial number for the car.

Thanks very much guys that really helped, so what product would you aim to finish with?

I was thinking

#83

#80

the swirl free polish

#3

#21

Do you think that would come up ok, maybe the glaze would help to hide the micromarring etc from the harsher polishes?

docker,

its a 2006 Civic LX, 4dr, 5sp man, Atomic Blue Metallic and it has a "J" as the first letter in the VIN.

Last fall I used Menzerna's IP (some panels had some cc scratches), FP II, FTG and topped with Collinite's IW #845. Haven't washed the car since late DEC but haven't driven it when the roads were dirty. Will use my new Danase Gilmour Foam Gun for the first time on it tomorrow weather permitting. I bet the paint beads like crazy, 5 months after I last used IW.

So I'm thinking about either Atomic or Royal blue or possibly the Shoreline Mist. My dealership doesn't have any 5 speeds which is a bummer.

Post some pics if you get a chance...

I've compared my friend's Japanese-built accord to my Ohio-built Accord of the same years. His is slightly noticeably better screwed together than mine. PLastic trim pieces fit better, his door handles have a more solid "pull" etc

What year? Because I do believe that for the last couple of years all Accords sold in the US are built here.
