Holy dumb question of the day batman!

So a random thought just ran through my head...

I was walking through the parking lot, and a co-worker was re-arranging his trunk... I stopped, and while talking to him, noticed he had something that converted his car adapter to a 3 prong regular looking plug...

Will that thing run the PC???? Oh my god! Imagine the possibilities!!

Anyone ever try this? How's it work? Does it work? Side effects?

What do I need to buy?!??!?

I either expect to be laughed at for living under a rock, or smacked for thinking of such a silly thing. Don't be gentle...

Itâ€â„¢s called an power inverter (changes 12 volts dc to 110 volts ac) check the wattage output before purchasing

so it'll work? Any potential side effects to the vehicle it's pulling from?

Any idea what size I'd need to run the PC?

I feel like I just discovered Guinness. Or women.. Or Guinness. Wait.. I already said that...

A PC requires (3.7) 4 amps at 110/120 volts the required inverter output would need to be (445) 500 watts

We have it in our Super Duty, but the truck has two batteries.

It's in the back (covered and carpeted) and we used to plug the VCR/ PlayStation into it on long road trips.

No harmful side effects here.

It'll work fine, you could get an auxillary battery in your trunk, that is separate from the regular battery, theres a way to charge it while you drive but not have it pull power from the car while the car off is off, i remember doing this w/ my car for my soudn system years ago

that would be funny to see. someone just chillin on the side of the road... polishing their car. i can't lie though.. i'd do it :)

I use a Vector inverter with my PC.

Vector VEC043 MAXX 750 Watt DC/AC Power Inverter

You may/can run the unit with the engine off if you wish and the inverter will shut down and alarm when battery voltage drops to 10.6.

Google it as they are sold everywhere.

Sam's Club has for $64.56.

Specs Below:

The Vector Maxx SST Inverter Converts Vehicle's 12 Volt DC to 110/120 Volt AC Household Powerare. They are the most advanced DC to AC inverters available. They are configured with the latest Soft Start Technology (SST). Before the introduction of Soft Start, high startup currents from large inductive loads could shut down the inverter.

* Runs AC powered equipment

* Heavy duty clamps connect directly to battery

* Low/overload battery LED

* LED power indicator

* Durable weather resistant aluminum housing

* Ideal for power failure emergencies or everyday applications

* 700 watt continuous power/1400 watt peak converts 12 volt dc to 110 Volt AC Household type wall socket

* Soft Start Technology (SST) - Gradually and safely ramps up the output voltage to start difficult motorized loads and protects sensitive appliance circuits.

* Automatic Reset - Restarts automatically if the inverter shutsdown from: over-voltage, under-voltage, overload, or over temperature, after the problem is corrected.

* Turbo Cooling - Extends life of product by keeping components cooler-unique heat sink, ducted airflow with a high efficiency fan motor to more effectively cool key components.

* Noise Free Technology - Filtered modified sine wave. Eliminates thehorizontallines and static that can appear on TV sets.

* Dual AC outlet

* LED power and fault indicators

* Powers up to 6.8 AMPS
