Holograms - looking to buy PC and do it myself

I’ve been on these forums a while and take great care of my car, but up until now have used a pro for swirl removal.



Recently I hit two deer and needed the hood and side panels redone on one side. The car came back from the shop with holograms all over the new paint job (they offered to fix, I don't trust them, so they will give me $150 to a detailer/PC), which is about six weeks old now, so should be off-gassed and cured in this warmer weather.



I have read up and watched YouTube’s on the use of a PC.



For holograms and light swirls on the old paint I am looking to use an orange pad then white, but I’m not sure on what product to put on the pads - assuming I am thinking of the correct pads.

What other polishes would those in the know recommend for using on the PC and with what pads, for holograms on the new paint and mild swirls on the old paint?



Car is jet black if that matters. I know - tough color.

Depending on the paint, but Ive found holograms come out with a white pad and 205 pretty well if it is a softpaint
 
check out detailers domain for some nice packages. They have way better pads then the CCS. Not to mention you get to choose your pads vs just getting all orange pads from autogeek.

I recommend that to a lot of people I know and even here in the forums as

a) contains 5.5" flat pads

b) contains the RIGHT pads

c) contains good polishes that I as well as others trust +very versitile

d) it has everything you need to polish- pad cleaner, BP, polishes, buffer



Right now they got a 15% off sale and it doesn't apply to this, so if your not in a rush look around. Detailers Domain contains good polishes but it's just too expensive. AG either has not enough pads, CCS pads or their own polishes.



Although this kit isn't perfect in my eyes (missing MF and DI MF is too expensive) its the best suited for beginners and novices.



Edit: Shoot! you can still use the 'Mday2010' coupon for free shipping. Ends today, sooo... you should act quick if you are interested. BTW a kit like this from AG costs around $230-250 so I'd say its a good deal :)

This is a really, really great deal. I wish I had known about things like this when I bought my PC! Im almost 500 dollars in now with all the product and pads I've purchased.

Like my last order... Yeah they are good but they refund it 48hours later, you pay the paypal fee, and it gets shipped out on the next day or the day after+ by the time they check the sale for free shipping will expire and they might have to call you etc. so why go through all of that?



+If a company is doing something like this, give them your money, they deserve it. Greg is a great guy, my orders usually come in 2-3days max. Never had issues, EVER. Great CS and he will help you out with anything, even making an order or recommending products, and he he is non bias about products too.



My opinion, just give DI the credit for offering a deal like this. Companies make specials like this (well its regular price) to bring in customers, not so you can go somewhere else.

What's so bad about CCS pads?



Also, would I be better off with a 5" pad than a 6.5"?



I'm figuring 5" would be easier to control and get into tighter spots.

It's not so much a matter of control (the PC is very easy to control with any pads) or even tight spots (generally that's simply not the issue you'd expect) but rather something more important- the ability to correct the paint period.



Even with soft paint, I wouldn't want to try any correction via PC with pads larger than 5.5". Truth be told, I only do correction via PC with 4" pads.



The big pads create too much friction and then the machine merely "jiggles".



And yeah, I'm considering that we're talking about the XP model ;)
