Hitachi SP18-VA, if you own, what do you say?

I am stuck in the same situation Changeling. I am tired of my 12 lb. black and decker and I am looking to get a Hitachi or Makita. I love the Hitachi's a lot, but the makita is great also and almost the same design. I am trying to find a Hitachi locally but no luck...just makitas. Every store is just trying to get me to buy anything and it gets aggrevating...I know. Let me know if you find any deals on Hitachi...I also need one as of yesterday. I might just get a makita..I need for this weekend..sucks I can't wait.
 
I have owned one for about 5 months now and love it. I've never used any other make of rotary, I just researched them all and bought the one I thought would be the best. I don't use the handle, I took it off and grab the end like I did with my PC. I have more control this way. Quality machine with a 5 year waranty and only 6.2lb, you got to love it.

SilvaBimma, I quoted the wrong person, I surely was not pointing this at you, but Mr. J Buffet. I just got so tired of hearing about that crap being so good I just couldn't take it!! That stuff is neither cost effective or worth a darn.

I have picked myself up.

Dusted myself off.



Reached for one of our 3 (three) $389.00 Fein WPO 12-27E rotary polishers, moved thru our 3500 sf Detailing Facility, and polished a Blue Bentley for an NBA player.



On the way, I reviewed the work of my three associates, all working on black cars (Excursion, MB CLK 55 AMG, and BMW 7 Series).



Then I remembered that I should have graditude, that I should be humble... and forgiving.



So, I just put my head down, and keep on buffing.:waxing: What do I know?:wall

I just bought the Hitachi...I need one for the weekend, so I ordered it overnight. It was $174 and was in stock. Not many places have them in stock. After doing research last night, it sounds like the best machine for the price. Plus 11 amps is powerfull!



Changeling, I'll let you know tomorrow how it works and I will give you an honest opinion.

Don't be adding fire to my temptation as I want one :drool: Good thing is that I am unable to find even a single excuse to get one (even my Metabo is more rotary than I will need for quite a while).

Thanks rydawg, I'll check it out. it seems they are one of the big 3 that everyone wants, but from $100.00 to $170.00, man that's one heck of a jump for us little people.

I realize they (Hitachi, Makita, Metabo) are pieces of junk but I'm definitely going to get 1 of the big 3, but first I'll have to go over to Harbor Freight and drool for a couple minutes over there great offerings.:chuckle: However when you pull up in your Bentley I'll break out the 6 guys I keep in the back to do a hand job on the Bentley. Yea, we might be small but we're humble!:spit:

Hitachi was $100 at Coastal Tool awhile ago, that's why it was such a good deal.



Grab a polisher that will work for you as an operator as well as give you confidence, that's the most important!

Yes it was a good deal...I got mine last summer and was told they had 3 left at this price..it was a promo ..then they would go up once the 3 were gone...I told a few on here and we grabbed the last 3 ...the good part is Coastal is just 35 minutes from my house...so it came over night to me....was cheaper to have shipped than drive there ...



I dropped my Makita off the roof while doing some sanding and cracked the housing...so till the new parts came I grabbed a new Hitachi and I am very pleased with the machine

Ya they were cheaper, but I need mine for the weekend. My 15 year old B&D just caught on fire. For what it costs for a Hitachi, I think it is priced cheap for what it is still. Dewalts cost more and are nothing special. Makitas are nice too and are built very well. Metabos look nice, but are more for an enthusiest like most people here and are made for a great finesse tool with a finish polish. I am sure I will end up with one soon too. Either 3 will give you the perfect job you are looking for. I did find some Hitachis for as low as $160, but were on backorder for a month.



I chose the Hitachi cause of the great price(to me), build quality, best warranty, 0-600 feather trigger start, 600-3400 speed dial, 11 amp, precion balanced, 3400 rpm for grinder use, (gotta have)new tool cure for the month:chuckle: . Makita would have been my second choice but it was a tough decision.



Just be careful of cheap machines. They give an unbalanced motion and are very inconsistant. Maybe they improved over the years:nixweiss



I will give it a fair review this weekend when I use it.

Change, personally I would not hessitate getting Harbor Freight rotary if my budget was not allowing for next level in price and I needed a rotary. Sure, it is not top gun but anybody that is a casual weekend warrior doesn't need more than what HF provides. With casual use HF one should last more than long enough. At $30 that makes a decision a no brainer. I got Metabo because I wanted to, not because I needed to. Heck, it is a very good question do I need rotary at all. Plus I strongly doubt finish I would end up with using HF would look any worse than one done with Metabo. In the end it is all about how finish looks. Tool is in the end just a torque generating electrical motor with convenience and longevity features. No average person will ask you which tool you used. They will all look at the paint. They care whether paint is shiny. They don't care how it became that way. You could've used Energizer Bunny to polish it with for all they care.
