Hitachi SP18-VA, if you own, what do you say?

Just a question on your feeling of the Hitachi rotary polisher if you happen to own one. I was searching prices on the "big 3" when I noticed that everyone (practically) is sold out of the Hitachi!

Why, is there something I or a lot of fellow Autopians haven't heard about?

i chose the hitachi...got it late last year. very smooth, powerful, and quiet (compared to my PC). i haven't used another rotary to compare it to, but i'm happy with it.

I've had the Hitachi for over a year now and even brought it to work when I used to work as a detailer at a car wash. I got tired of the crappy pneumatic powered ones that they used there. They would always bog down. Apparently, everybody else preferred the Hitachi also, as I pretty much let anyone there use it.

I also purchased a Makita 9227 a couple of months ago for the hell of it and haven't even tried it out yet. I guess I'm so used to the Hitachi that I don't see a need to take the Makita out of the box.

Have you tried Coastal Tool?

We have several rotaries, including two Hitachi. At $99 each, I think they are fine. Personally, I don't care for the handle, but I use it daily...

If they want more than $99, you have several other options.

While different tools have various features, and levels of quality, sometimes it is just a machine that spins a pad...

I also have four Harbor Freight/Chicago Electric rotaries, which have proven to be remarkable values. Here is Their link:

Harbor Freight Tools

Good Luck.

I know about the other tools, I was just wondering about the Hitachi.

PS. you can forget getting it for $99.00 anymore, LOL.

Hitachi was a great purchase for $100. Though the Harbor Freight Tools are an excellent value, you owe it to your business to get a quality machine, that is if your a professional Detailer.

Change....I have the Hitachi and i have a makita....I like the Hitachi a bit better..It feels more balanced...very smooth and quiet ..has a spindle lock ...can feather the trigger....only thing i would have liked was a detent type speed control...i mean it is not bad...but there is room for improvement ...I heard some newer ones may have it now..do not know for sure...but all in all...the Hitachi is talked about on alot of the boards as a great machine..

PS..there was a place selling them awhile back for 119.00...but I have no link to it ...i think others have posted the place a few months back...it was not coastal tool...but a tool distributor anyways...

Not to worry SilvaBimma, I have no intention of getting that HF crap, I had my run in with that stuff along time ago.

The original post explains the reason "For" the post, but some seem not qualified to read, just advertise. Sorry but hair rising on neck, but if you can't read, this is why I am saying this.

Most people on this site are interested in doing the best they can to take care of and intensify the look of there work. That is why the web site has been so dam succesfull!!

I would sincerely hope, and would suggest that anyone listing to your hype about HF crap just plain ignore it/you.

I have a habbit of blowing up now and then and then repenting, but not in your case, you just keep bring this rap/crap up and people new to detailing could be sensitive to buying this junk that you keep bring up in various posts, enough is enough, quit!

Yeah, that $119 price sure was sweet! That was through an ebay auction that was through Utterguys. I haven't seen that in a while.

SilvaBimma, I quoted the wrong person, I surely was not pointing this at you, but Mr. J Buffet. I just got so tired of hearing about that crap being so good I just couldn't take it!! That stuff is neither cost effective or worth a darn.

Sorry for the mix up.

Hi Al, If I could find it for $119.00 it would be awesome.

I'll give it a search now, thanks.
