Hit and Run today!

What makes you think this guy is gonna pay? He hit your car then drove off, not very responsible. File an accident report let the police cite him for driving away. Turn it in to your insurance and let them go after the guy. Get your car fixed right. This guy will stall, nickel and dime you, and give you every excuse why he can not pay right now. Learn from the experience of others, do not reinvent the wheel, no real need to attend the school of hard knocks.

I recommend two things in regards to insurance:

1. Get the police report done properly, and assuming that this person has insurance, make a claim to his company.

2. Do not call your insurance company at this point. I was once hit in a parking lot, got the guy's name and insurance company information and then called my insurance company. I did not make a claim on my insurance since the other guy's company paid for my repair. However, months later I found out that by just merely contacting my insurance company, I was loaded into my company's database as having been in an accident. I told my agent that I was most unhappy about this but she told me that it is common practice in the insurance industry. Eventually, being in a company's database could effect the rates charged.

FYI

Those look like the same set of scratches on my car. My guess was that someone scraped a shopping cart against the side of my car........... for a long time.

I've been through this a few times. My advice? Don't play games, even if you have to go through your own insurance company. I've gone through mine and even though I had to pay my deductable up front, I always got it back when my ins. collected from his (or him if uninsured). Trust me, they are nasty about getting their money back and you'll see your deductable back soon enough and it won't raise your rates.

agreed, this is the way to go. use the insurance, deal with this guy will take you more time and trouble than just letting the insurace companies duel it out. anyway, the guy should get a ticket just for leaving the scene of an accident - I'm a bit surprised the cop let it slide like that
