Hit and Run: 2008 BMW 3 series :(

hey guys. I've had my 3 series coupe for about 4 1/2 months now. Was able to maintain it to be perfect until THIS day. I was at school today and someone ran into my bumper and left. Anyways, here are some pics. I was wondering if I should go through insurance, put some bmw touch up paint on, or just suck it up and leave it as is. There was no damage to the bumper other than the paint. Any idea how much this would cost to fix? I know a couple people but if it's over 100 I might as well just leave it as is.

I would apply the touch up paint and wet sand it to even it out, then buff the area. Beacaue you have a new car you have a lot of paint to play with. and being a white car it will blend a bit better than say my car which is black.

Yea that's actually quite an easier fix. a few how to's are written up on this site. Not near as bad as you think. You should be able to get that back to perfect in no time.

I see 3 options:

*Have it professionally repaired - $350-400

*Have a mobile lot lizard mobile paint guy spot refinish it and watch it fail down the road

*Brush touch it

This is funny, had the exact same scratch in the exact same spot on my 2006 E90 in the same color!

I ended up touching it up with an artists brush (4 coats) then clear'd it (2 coats) then sanded it with 2000-->2500-->3000 papers. I buffed out the scratches with a 4" spot pad on the PC, but be careful, as I found out the hard way the paint burns very easily right there

Hope that helps!

Don't go through insurance, your deductable will cost more then the actuall repair would cost and your premium will go up. I would touch it up with some touch up paint, if your confident you can wet sand and buff the spot too but don't attempt it if you're not sure you can do it.
