Gotta' disagree there. You're not paying $110/hour to add users, you're paying $110/hour to make sure tasks are done without things getting screwed up...or being able to fix them if bad things do happen.

I do it properly for around $45 an hour, depending on the client and network I'm working on.

It's like saying you're going to charge $415 an hour to polish paint. At some point, even if you're doing it properly, it becomes absurd and a rip-off. You wouldn't pay $445 an hour for a mechanic to work on your vehicle, just the same like you wouldn't pay $375 an hour for a plumber to un-clog your sink. Fair price is fine, but overcharging and gouging is just plain stupid, IMO.

Degrees? Too many. Bachelor Music UTexas, Master Music UTexas, Master Arts in Biblical Theology St. Mary's, Master Divinity, Lutheran Seminary. I thought if I got 3 masters I could trade them in for a Doctorate. Should have read the fine print.

It's good to see fellow detailers with degrees on here. I got my associates in Business Administration back 2007 and should finish up my bachelors in Business Administration next year. Started out detailing cars for a local detail shop 10 years ago and never in a million years would I have even thought about pursuing this professionally. For the time being it's a great way to earn extra cash, network, and continuing to perfect this craft of auto detailing.

I have ever rarely seen someone told to S2 in such a polite way, a casual statement(spot on BTW) replied to in such a prissy manner. Jake(ster)/rooni/arama/meister you stir the poo just like your homey Andy with nothing positive to say...............ever.

Score: Jakerooni=0 Dave=1 game /set/match. So much for intellectual superiority by higher education on your part.

Bob... Seriously man. I know you and Andy had you're little *piss in each other wheaties* contest. But don't drag me into it. As far as Andy and I go I've talked to the guy here and there and that's about it. I don't consider him a close freind. Just a guy who likes to talk detailing from time to time. I don't know why you two have such hissy fits with each other and frankly I just don't care. What you two want to do really has nothing at all to do with me. I've never said anything against you. I don't even know you. And I really don't get how this thread is supposedly "stirring the poo" Maybe you're looking at it in some different way than the rest of us.

Not to derail this thread, but you hit on a good point. "Depending on the client" can mean a lot of things. Local market rates also factor in. I'll just speak to locale I'm comfortable addressing - the SF bay area. When I do contract IT work, I bill myself at $125/hour. At that rate, I could get a lot more work than I take. I will charge less for non-profit work, and I'll also occasionally charge more when I'm walking into a hornet's nest.

My point: whether expertise (or connecting back to the topic...academic skill) is applied to every job should only factor minimally to the general rates being charged. My favorite local mechanic charges $105/hour whether he's working on brakes or he's diagnosing a complicated transmission issue. For a corporate-level gig, I charge $125 an hour, whether I'm doing AD MAC work or I'm diagnosing a layer-6/7 traffic-shaping problem caused by the disgruntled ex-employee who refused to document anything before he split. Logic being, if I know what I'm doing, that AD work only takes 15 minutes and the customer gets value for their dollar as well as my accountability. But...and not trying to jab here...you know where most of my business comes from? Cleaning up after the $45/hour guy who either made the problem worse or created a whole slew of new ones. Certainly no different than a lot of the detailing jobs we read about here on Autopia.

I have an AS Degree in Public Communications, and I am just a few credits shy of a AS degree in Fire Science.

Then to my face or online " Bob car looks good" and yes you are part of the "Andy" crew and don"t you deny it as I have proof.

Ohh you're talking about the PM I sent to Barry because of a complete other conversation we were having... Gotcha.. And Dave you're Barry's business partner I'm sure he can send that PM to you as well. It's really not that big of a deal at all. I said bob took a thousand pics of a car that really didn't look like it needed much at all done to it. It was one part of a much bigger conversation between me and a handful of other detailers about the amount of pics. (that everyone was posting and now you see others making comments about that)The 1 pm was obviously taken out of context but as always people with only a small portion of knowledge on the topic at hand jump to full blown conclusions and think they obviously know the entire picture... Such is the case anymore on these forums. I admit I've been guilty of this too. So Bob... I do apologize And dave I'm sorry it's not an all out juicy dish you're hoping for. It was just my opinion in that piticuler conversation that the car in question really wasn't all that bad. Just an opinion nothing more. The pictures obviously didn't do the car justice. And Bob about your so called "Freinds" I can PM you all sorts of things as well that your so called "freinds" say behind your back too.. I have them all saved as well. But like I keep saying... Don't know you.. Don't care about you and since you "Damn well finish things!!!!!" Consider this finished.. You showed me good and I just don't care to carry on with this. If that out of context PM offended you I again apologize it's not the point of this thread.

Of course Jake, now that the lie you told is out the bag you want to do damage control.................... there are plenty tired of your snipping on their write ups and other smartass retorts that you are famous for.

After I cut and paste this PM, I will cut and paste that Gran turismo I did and let everyone here be the judge as to if that car needed serious correction or not. BTW Jake how many Maserati's have you done?.

HERE IS THE PM..............

Or does Bob seem to get off on posting a 1000 pics of stupid ridiculously easy details? I mean seriously name just one thing on that maseratte that took even a bit of skill? That thing was as basic as it gets. LOL is he really serious?
