Nothing to see here....long time lurker, first time poster.

Sold my Mustang, bought a Mazda6 that smells like an ashtray, came over to see how to rid it.

A thorough cleaning will be a good start. Cleaning the leather and vinyl surfaces will go the fastest. Cleaning the carpeted/upholstered areas will be more tedious and will likely be the areas that are holding the majority of the offensive odors. Be careful not to oversaturate those fabrics and pay close attention to removing all soap residues afterwards. Take extra care with the headliner, where I generally recommend the using a "dry" foam product.

Toss in some zeolite based "odor remover" sachets and then work from there.

Edit: Failed to add what might be obvious...allow the areas plent of fresh air dry time (ie. don't immediately roll up all the windows or you will trade one offensive odor for another.

First welcome to AF!!!

The best thing that I have heard of so far to permanently get rid of smells in a vehicle is CarPro So2Pure Air Purifying Coating.

Welcome to AF, it will need a good cleaning the interior and follow up with a Ozone Generator if you can get a hold of one.

WELCOME!

I've had good results putting some Poorboy's (I like the leather) scent in a Glad
(Tupperware style) container along with a few cotton balls.

Fill the container about 1/4 way with PB's scent and put it under the seat.
This does not "clean" away the scent but it smells much better that riding in an ash tray.
