Glad to find a forum with other crazy perfectionist types!! Guess I've been detailing cars for over 40 years now - from the early days of washing and waxing my parents cars, painting the RWL and using glycerin on the tires.
Here's my intro -
1. Wound up here looking for information on the new formula ONR - had read that it was great stuff but didn't know if the new formula was as good as the original. My order from Classic Motoring just arrived today so I guess I'll have to take a vehicle out and dirty it up a bit for cleaning.
2. What I like most about detailing is the nearly instant gratification - just a little work and a beautiful result!! For years I've called it my "therapy", nothing more relaxing after a frustrating day at work than to come home and clean up the car.
3. Favorite products - I used the Xymol stuff for years but now like the p21S line of waxes and polish, 3M Finesse-it, Megiuars Final Inspection, etc. Best purchase was the PC7424 that I picked up a few years back because this old gal has arthritis in her hands.
4. Dream car - not sure that I have one, I really like DIFFERENT vehicles. I like our roadster, pickup, and SUV. If it were too fancy I'd worry too much about driving it.
5. What's the best thing you learned on Autopia? Well I was glad to see the AutoGlym HD wax is available at Walmart - ran out and got some. I recently used the p21S 100%, liked the results but the wax seemed very dry and crumbly. Anxious to see how the AutoGlym does - I loved their bumper/rubber product but haven't been able to find it for years - glad to see CM also carries it now!
6&7. Other hobbies and interests - woodworking, but I'm too much a perfectionist and too new at it to get much done. Also do therapy dog work with our Border Collie and Australian Shepherd, and volunteer with a couple dog groups.
8. Name three secret techniques that you think you should share to fellow Autopians.
9. Lifetime Mid-Atlantic US resident.
10. First car was a 1965 GTO convertible.
11. What motivates you to detail? I like the results!!!!
12. Would you ever pay someone else to detail your car? Noooooo!! NEVER!!
13. Does detailing run in the family at all, or are you the only normal one? Just me, husband hardly wants to even wash his car, says it'll just get dirty again - he's Mr. JustTransportation
14. What is your favorite part about detailing?
15. If detailing is a hobby for you, would you like to do it full time, or do you feel that it would take the fun out of it? Always said that when I retired i was going to get a job at CarMax detailing cars, I retired a couple years ago and so far haven't applied, yet!
Sorry for the lengthy post - back to lurking and learning!!
