Hey grout sponge pusher

That should be obvious from my questions.

Do you think only people who sing the praises of the GS should be allowed to ask questions or make comments here?

Try a test with the grout sponge(Superiorbilt) and Lambwools mitt you use and post on here why either one give less marring or someone else try this. I see alot of people doing comparison test on here. Try it.

I bought the QEP sponge from Home Depot a few days ago.

Last week I used ONR for the fist time with a Chenille mitt. I have to say, ONR is simply amazing! My car was gleaming way more than it did after a conventinal wash (Meguire's gold class shampoo). It actually looked like it was waxed. Can't wait to try the grout sponge with it this weekend!

I bought these on Friday..have yet to use them. Is this what you are using SM?

Hopefully this will answer a couple questions that I got in PM's as well.

I don't recall what brand the packaged sponges I purchased were. I have *never* bought a single packaged sponge. My *goto* sponge is the loose Superiorbilt sponge. I guess you could say that that is my reference sponge and where my love and comments come from.:)

I got mine also from HD, and they are not packaged, they are in a bin loose with a tag that says Superiorbilt.

You can only get the Superiorbilt one here in California, But the QEP one feels and looks like the Superiorbilt. Here the picture I took. Superiorbilt on the left and QEP on the right where it's at most HD

Just got done using the QEP GS I purchased from HD today. I gotta say I like it a lot better than the MF wash mitt I've been using. It definitely holds more water and suds and does a really good job of rinsing clean. All in all I give it a :goodjob

Yeah, I looked all through both HD's in town and could only find the QEP branded sponge. When I get a chance I'll compare it to the sea sponge I usually use for ONR washes. If nothing else I can cut one of the QEP sponges up to fit in some hard to get spots on my wheels.

Try it - you'll like it, c'mon try it - you'll like it. OK so I tried it, I don't like it - I LOVE IT! Thanks man, you've converted another!

I used a brand new white chenille mitt for my first ONR wash, and after one wash, the mitt is pretty dirty, and won't rinse clean. Will the Grout Sponge rinse clean? I'm afraid to use the chenille mitt now that it's so black.

IME, the grout sponge will rinse very clean unless you get really big things stuck inside the pores, in which case wringing the sponge out seems to work very well.

For anecdotal reference, I used one to wash my wheels and when I was through, as expected, it was completely black from the brake dust. But when I rinsed it out and wrung it out, I couldn't tell it apart from my paint sponge! It's visibly clean and I've and idea which is which but if you really wanna keep them apart, make sure you label them.

But yeah, in my experience, they definitely rinse very clean.

You guys use this (ONR) just when there is road film on the car basically? What about if there is brake dust on the side of the car...i daily drive a road race vette and my wheels are pretty dirty only after a couple days and it could be the r-coumpounds all over the side of the car but there is surely a light coating of some dark dust on the car. I just wash it to be safe...do you think it would be safe to use this in my scenario or would you leave it for dust buildup like i do with my current QD/waterless wash?

ONR is used as a car wash. I use it in the winter and wash in my garage; in the summer I use a foamgun. However if my wife drives through flying goose poop two days after a wash, and it's dark out when I get home, an ONR wash in the garage is just the thing.

Scottwax has a great thread about how to use it. Look in the Hall of Fame part of the forum.

In preparation for a full detail on my car today, I used the grout sponge on the entire car. Before I had used it once just on the hood to see if it left any marring (it didn't). Second time around I was much more comfortable using it.

What I was really pleased with, however, was going to a one bucket method with grit guard (previously I had used a 2 bucket method with the grit guard in the rinse bucket). I mixed up 3 gallons of ONR, and it was so simple just putting the sponge back in the wash bucket. And I wasn't losing ONR like I would if I used a rinse bucket.

I would have preferred to use less than 3 gallons of solution, but I wanted to be safe and have some clearance with the grit guard. BTW, the 5 gallon buckets at Lowe's (with the gallon and liter markings on the side) work great with the grit guard.

The marring on my car is history, so in the future I'll be able to keep a good eye on how the grout sponge is doing on my car's paint.

I didn't think anything of it besides that it is funny. I would have edited it as soon as someone said something about it but Setec Astronomy already quoted me on it.
