Hey grout sponge pusher

I know SM stated that we should look for the sponges in the bin but I could not find any so I bought a couple of the QEP individually packaged sponges. Are the QEP sponges ok to use?

Okay, that's it..I'll have to try these at least once.

After having "no nap=marring" drilled in my head for so long, I've completely ruled out sponges of any type. But if it doesn't cause marring, is cheaper and lasts longer than a mitt, I'll give it a shot.

My cars don't stay dirty (as defined by the autopian) for long, but I think I'd still hesitate to use one on a really dirty car.

Hmmm...I sound similar to an ONR sceptic now :grinno:

I still do a traditional wash if my vehicle is REALLY filthy, but for weekly washes, ONR+Grout Sponge is all I use.

Guys, just make sure your grout sponges are soft, my first few were pretty stiff, and have since been relegated to wheel duty.

Alright I'll give these another try. I tried one like in Ralliart16's lower photo for $1.97. It picked up some dirt and grime from the lower panels and wouldn't rinse clean. So I didn't really like it much. But for $2 I still use it for wheel wells.

Just thinking out loud here but I wonder if I could just throw them in the washing machine after.

I'm going to try to get together in the near/not so near future with cdodkin and maybe, just maybe we will put something together. He's got the video skills.:D

I love it, 8 pages so far of grout "sponge-worthy" posts (inside joke for all your Seinfeld fans)

that picture David F posted of the extreme use ability of the sponges is insane. Quite frankly if he uses them that is yet another good testimony for them. :heelclick

Hmmm ... picked one up too to see what this is all about. HD didn't have the SuperiorBilt posted by SpoiledMan, but it did have the QEP 70005 made in Greece for $1.97 which looks nearly (if not) identical. Interesting though, the 6 pack had a very similar part number (something like 70005-6), felt just as soft, but was made in the USA.

I also checked Lowe's, and they carry what looks to be the same sponge but different brand name. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these come from the same source.

I'll have to go back and do some reading now so that I'm up to speed on using this thing.

i just picked one up today. walmart was next door so i picked up those cheap MF WW towels too. i cant wait to wash

One drawback to grout sponges.. you have to squeeze them to get into the nooks and crannies**, which releases out the stored water quickly.. and.. can this scratch up the paint?? Just realized, they are cheap enough, probably can cut them up to fit into the little parts?? Hmmm...

**My car has some tight spots, e.g. under a "mock" spoiler on the rear, creases between rear bumper and body panel, etc, where the sponge won't fit, even turned sideways.

Good thinking... I could have one cut full of slits for my grill. Like tiny fingers... Darn, now I have to buy two grout sponges when I go. lol
