Hey Everyone, I'm new!

My back hurts...
Hey, I'm Steve, and I'm completely new to detailing (I always thought waxing was something meant for Ferraris and MB's...heheheh. I discovered this site looking for a solution to the truck my Grandfather gave me. It's a 1991 Chevy S-10, and has never really been garaged, besides the last few years in an open carport, and has never seen a coat of wax. He bought it 5 years ago and has only washed it with plain water and muslin rags. So needless to say with the saltwater from hurricanes and the dust from being near a road all the time, the paint was horribly oxidized...felt like 2000 grit almost. I picked up some 3M rubbing compound and a terry covered applicator along with some microfiber towels at walmart and went to work :( It took me 12 hours in total, split up over 3 days, since I had to go over the hood and roof like 5 times to get them looking decent, but still quite far from perfect. My wrist and shoulder felt like someone had shot them full of fire, but my paint is halfway decent!

I then picked up some Turtlewax and Armorall and dressed the interior and tires, and waxed the paint...WOW it looked like a totally different vehicle. But I was thinking, "OK, so I've used all the 'tried and true' stuff...what about all those other brands I've never heard of that covered the shelves? Maybe there's something better than Armorall and Turtlewax..." So I found this place, and my wallet is huddled in a dark corner right now, it doesn't want to come out :D

Luckily my place of work has re-opened in a new location (the old one was on the beach in Biloxi.) So I'm looking to pick up a 7336 at lowes and I've got a shopping list at PAC that made my Mom say WTF? :angel_not:

Well, I've posted a few times so I thought I'd let y'all know where I'm coming from and why I'm here :) I've learned a lot already and I know I'll learn a lot more, but please forgive me if I ask any stupid questions. Before I found Detail City I thought Dawn was the stuff to go to when you wanted a clean car. My back isn't happy with my newfound hobby but the rest of me feels so dang good driving a clean vehicle :)

Thanks and Regards,
Steve

p.s. Sorry for the short story :P

Re: Hey Everyone, I'm a FNG :D

Welcome to DC!
Read some before you start spending a lot of money. It's pretty easy to get caught up in the hobby and go overboard with more products than you need or will use.
Ask all the questions you want and someone will try to help you.

Charles

ps. FWIW, the F word or references to it is not terribly welcome at DC.:)

Re: Hey Everyone, I'm a FNG :D

Thanks for the welcome :) I was using FNG to stand for Friendly new guy...I forgot about the original meaning  I don't tend to use profanity (on the internet anyway) but thanks for letting me know Charles :)

I'm definitley going to research before I start spending money...been reading a LOT on here. Right now I just want to pick up some polish, clay, a quick detailer, some S&W and some decent MF towels along with a pad kit for the PC I'm looking at, which isn't a lot, but they kinda add up especially since I'm in college :) As to which brand of each of those I'm going to pick (besides the obvious PB S&W) I'm still absorbing opinions and such. This is quite fun and educational

Welcome to the site and as others said read, read, read and you will find ways to make your ride look great and spend your bucks.

welcome! i love it when new people join with such a nice and respectful way of speaking and viewing DC.

well u made it clear u made the truck look better. but now. u have to make it look awesome. listen to the guys. dont get caught up in buying tons of products. pick a line, preferably poorboys, and stick with it. then when u're absolutely satisfied with a product line and u're starting to run short, then begin venturing for the replacement. i feel poorboys is an awesome brand to look into and it is the perfect introduction and finale to any detailer/detail.

thanks for joining the site..
and once again, welcome
