Accumulator, where are you?? I need somebody to talk some sense into me!

Ah, but you already know what I'm gonna say ;) I'd get silver. Almost all of my Audis have been silver and it's been pretty easy to always have them in very impressive condition. I'd rather have a car that looks nice all the time than one that looks absolutely *incredible* but only for the first few minutes after a detail, before any dust settles on it. My black cars were only the way I liked them until I drove 'em but my silver cars always look swell.

But that dolphin gray could be really neat and just a little different.

Unless you really want to spend a major portion of your life caring for the car's appearance, I just can't see a black dd.

Ok, I thought this had been decided but since it hasn't here goes. What about one of the blue pearl colors or the beige? I'm not a fan of driving something everyone else has and I see a lot of black or silver Audi's on the road. Granted the silver and dolphin gray do look stunning when taken care of which you'll do. Just a thought to trying something different. Like Accumulator says I can't see having black as a dd.

Our last service loaner was a biege/bronze A4 and IMO that was one *unattractive* car! Some blues can be as bad as black, so I'd be careful there.

I'd have to see a white on in person to know for sure...some vehicles just look right/wrong in white.

Dolphin gray looks awesome on this car, just saw one parked today that really caught my eye. Its a unique color, but its not so unique that you'll regret it. I've always thought that the solid colors without any metallic flake look the best on Audis for some reason, although I can't really say why.. maybe they just match the personality of the cars. I have a white A3 and I'm super happy with that choice as well. So here's one vote for Dolphin gray, and one vote against silver... I think its a bit boring.

JET BLACK!!!!! i hate metallic blacks, i cant stand them. and i dont think silver is that stunning on that car. JET BLACK for sure!

I'm going to try this one more time. Below is the post I've made twice today and it never took (it's still stuck in my spell checker so I can just paste it in.) There was a pic in the original, so I'm going to edit it out in case that's the problem.

Okay, I'll play :D Quartz Gray Metallic. That thing has a lot of chrome, which my tastes seem not to like. So dark colors are out for me as they show the chrome too well. Silver has always been a little too much for me, but it hides the chrome well. QGM is sort of a dark silver/pewter kind of color, so not so bright as silver, but it still works well with all that chrome.

Edit: Huh, it worked this time. I guess there's a rule that I can post pics in threads I start, but not in threads to which I reply. Noob discrimination!

Thanks for all the posts guys. I've reevaluted my decision...

I want a car that I can keep looking great for the next 5-10 years. I want a car that can have swirls, but still be beautiful.

So, I changed it to Light Silver Metallic. I will probably tint the windows and get some BBS wheels to keep it "sport/sleek".

Importantly did you get the s-line package because that makes it look much nicer than w/o.

Sweet. Did you check out my detail pics of my black a4? Wish I could have waited and ordered it exactly how I wanted, but I'm impatient!! So I gave in and mine doesn't have the upgraded audio or heated seats, but in GA we don't really need heated seats.

I put a thread up with the detail pics, but incase you missed.. Gallery

PS enjoy cleaning your rims daily!!! Those front calipers are HUGE and the pads dust like nobodies business.

silvergray- I think you'll be happy with your decision...especially about four years from now when you realize that you've kept it very nice looking without spending all your free time on it ;)

Be careful about your choice of wheels. I put BBS RGRs on the M3 and they're an incredible PIA to clean compared with the 5-spokes on most of our other vehicles. Sorta the same idea as with the paint- what'll look good with a reasonable investment of time and effort.

Light Silver Metallic is my choice and the up keep would be not so hard as the black. I'm into Silver Metaillic these days, enjoy your A4

Just for the sake of argument, here’s an exercise to try at home. Forget 5-10 years. What about right now? If you walk into a showroom and look at one in your chosen color today do you get excited about the color? (not the car but the color)

If the answer is no, you sure as hell won’t be excited about it in 5 years.

.. silver looks dull

Only when it's allowed to become imperfectly detailed, which is what a lot of people let happen. It's so easy for silver to look 80% that I suspect many folks never put in the work to make it look truly decent (as in, as much time spent inspecting as actually polishing...not exactly fun). I honestly wonder how many people ever spent five or six hours polishing a silver vehicle, bet they'd see a difference if they did.

Guess this is where people can differ; I've "turned on" to colors that didn't initially impress me. Often I *do* think it was because of the way they stayed nice over the years with mininal effort on my part. Benz's "Kalihari Biege" comes readily to mind, I ended up really liking that despite my initial very negative impression. And while I considered a different, more interesting, color for the MPV, five years later I'm *very* glad I went with silver. For some reason I've even started to appreciate the Mazda silver, which I'd previously dismissed as boring compared to Audi silver; it's definitely grown on me.

I've been more inclined to fall out of lust with colors like red and black that ended up being a PIA on a regular basis. I find that with high-maintenance stuff, well, the bloom fades pretty fast for me. But hey, that's just me.

Heh heh, guess this is why silvergray has to make up his *own* mind after considering all the different input we're giving him ;)
