Help with scratches

I had to drive my brand new black car through some low branches....long story. Anyways, I have many scratches going all down the sides of my car. I used Scratch-X on them, in the shade, and it looked good. Then I took it out of the shade and I can see the scratches. If in the shade you have to look really hard to see them now, at just the right angle, but they are clearly there in the sun.

Besides using Scratch-X, what else will help to completely get rid of the scratches? No professional detailers seem to be open and I'm trying to get this done by Tuesday. Please help me out.

Welcome. The way I see it, you only have scratchX as a polish? Do you have anything else? There are numerous products that would help you, depending upon the severity of the scratches. Do you have a machine to help you? A PC or a rotory? Can you feel the scratches with your fingernail? Can you see a different color primer in the scratches?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Haven't gotten it fixed yet.

As far as scratch removal items that I have, it's just Scratch-X. I have other stuff, like the clay bar kit, wax kit, etc for once I get the scratches out. I do not have a machine to help me out, but if need be, I'll buy one.

No, I can not feel the scratches with my fingernail. I was able to get most of the scratches out with Scratch-X, but there are just a couple left that you can only see at the right angle with the help of the sun. Very hairline, if this wasn't a brand new black car you probably couldn't tell they are there.

The majority of the scratches went away with Scratch-X after 1 application with light/medium pressure. The remaining ones had 1-2 more applications with more pressure. The ones still remaining have had maybe 5-6 more applications with even more pressure.

So basically, I'm a complete newb at this and I'm wondering what products would help me get rid of these scratches. Thanks

ScratchX will work but you will need to make more passes with a lot of pressure. I got rid of several scratches in my dads car but it took 2 hours, 2 blisters and about 5000 applications to do it. And I have a PC! ScratchX is why God invented beer - but it will work. Good luck.

I just gave one scratch (the most visible one) about 45min straight, I don't even know how many coats with just about enough pressure to push in the metal. With no signs of it fading. I checked all over it, I can't feel it with my nail or anything at all. I stopped because I wasn't sure if I was doing more damage to it.

Is there another product that is still safe to use but works better, another method to do this or what are my other options?

Ah...that does look nice. I just went out and gave it another hour. Using a different technique, I was able to get the main scratch down a bit, got rid of a couple other problem scratches though.

When is enough? I am having a hard time seeing the scratches now, I have to pratically get my face on the car and eyeball it from just the right angle with just the right light reflecting off of it. I know, I'm obessed... but brand new car!

Will waxing fix it from here, or do I still have to work on the scratch with Scratch-X or the above mentioned product?

As I see it, you have 2 choices: Stay with the ScratchX until they're gone or live with them. Daily drivers will never be perfect. IF you decide to live with them, when you're finished cleaning/polishing then use a pure glaze which has lots of oils/fillers and top with a couple of coats of whatever lsp you intend to use. You probably won't be able to see them. For damn sure nobody else will.

You're in good company around here. :waxing:

When you're talking about a daily driver, and especially when it's black, you're fighting an uphill battle to stay totally scratch and swirl-free. Not that some of us don't try....
