Help with Menzerna Products

I do appreciate all of the Menzerna info. Very, very useful information that sorts out a kind of confusing Menzerna lineup.



I agree completely with the PO85RD comments. Back in August, I did my (once yearly) polishing on my Black Sapphire BMW. It wasn't very bad to start, so I started with M205. It looked pretty good afterwards, good enough that I would have stopped there if working on anyone else's car. I pulled out my bottle of PO85RD, and gave it a go.



There was a difference, enough to notice. To be sure, if you want to take medium or hard clearcoats to another level, 85RD is worth it.



However, I will not be taking the 85RD with me when I visit my brother and his family this weekend, and I work on his new black Suburban. He'll get 205 and like it, 'cause I'm not polishing that beast twice!

Yeah, I stopped at M205 on my Yukon XLD too, even though I was pretty sure I could've improved it a bit even with the BF/106FF or 1Z HG. Sixteen months later, I can say that its level of gloss isn't bugging me enough to regret the decision.



Hope the M205 is enough for your brother's Suburban, I have to use M105 to make any headway on GM clear.
 
Oh, the 105 will be in the "bin" I take along. We will see. I gotta cut some slack here--my siblings give me carte blanche to their beach house, and I mind their vehicles : )

I am not a professional, and only work on my 1995 Audi Sport 90 Quattro and my wife's 2003 VW Jetta TDI.

Do these 2 have soft or hard clear's?

I have used Menzerna exclusively since 2006.

Here are my 4 steps:

Step 1 -Clay



Step 2 - Menzerna PO106FA Polish using the White pads

(Polish)



Step 3 - Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze using the Black pads

(Glaze)



Step 4 - Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket using the Red pads

(Seal)

Any suggestions?

The Audi will have pretty hard clear, but not *quite* as hard as they are these days. But close enough that you'll never notice the diff ;)



Can't say for sure about the VW, but I'd expect it to be pretty hard too.

You might not like my suggestion- I'd say "get some Meguiar's M105" :o



You'll need something more potent to fix anything worse than very light marring; the 106FA (note I've only used the 106 relabeled "BlackFire" and that might be 106FF, if that matters...) won't do much correction on hard clear. I've corrected Audis with milder stuff (not as mild as 106 though) but oh man does it take forever.



But then, you've been doing those cars for a while now, right? Maybe whatever you're doing now is just fine :nixweiss



BTW, that '95 Audi sounds like all sorts of fun, especially in winter weather :D

You all should go read his threads where he rants about Edge Wool, especially Edge White Wool!



Are you still using Edge pads Bee? Or have you moved on?
 
Yup, still using Edge pads, along with an assortment of others, but I'm sad to say that the Edge White Wool finishing pads are completely worn out, and it appears that they've been discontinued. :(

I looks as though they have discontinued the 6 inch white wool. I am glad I bought one not too long ago. The 8 inch ones appear to be in stock though that may be untill they are sold out. I know you like the six inch ones, I like the 8's on the rotary, can cover more territory. I use my 6's for tighter areas.



The red pads were discontinued quite a while ago correct?
 
I have sucessfully used the 106 and 85rd and you really put everthing in perfect perspective. Made by trip back to Autopia well worth it.

Hey superbee, is it possible to use FP II (PO87MC) with a Griots DA with 4" pads and have it break down all the way like your mentioned? Or is a rotary needed? I have a NHBP honda that I think I might use PO87MC on after m105/m205 after seeing your advice, but I only have the Griots DA.

PO87MC is now called "Micro Polish", and has an abrasive rating of 2 and gloss of 4.5, while PO85RD has abrasive rating of 1 and gloss of 5.

I did note in the post that, even though there is a difference in gloss in Menz's chart between PO85RD and PO87MC, that it really is the same as long as they are used on clears who's hardness is *appropriate* for the polish used, i.e., PO87MC for soft clears (as PO85RD can make a mess out of soft clears), and PO85RD for hard clears (as PO87MC lacks the cut needed to get anywhere on hard clears).



Hopefully someone with more experience using Menz products with a DA can chime in to answer your question. I've never had much luck with a DA and Menz polishes, at all. To the point that using a DA never even comes to mind if I reach for a Menz bottle.
