Help with 4" pads

Looking to buy some 4" pads for my PC7424. Currently I have 5.5" pads (orange, white, black).

The way I see it, I would only use 4" pads in tight areas or when the 5.5" pads aren't correcting properly. Following this train of though, I think I only need 4" purple, yellow, orange and white. Planning on getting one of each for now.

Am I correct in my thinking? Do I need the PFW?

I figure I'd use 4" pads for headlights too which is why I'm buying a white pad too.

I use 4" pads almost every detail I do, to me they work better then the bigger pads and bc they work better I do not notice the smaller pads taking anymore time to detail then say the 5.5. I have PFW, yellow (never used), oranage, green, white, green, black

^ You use a rotary though right?

I didn't end up getting the PFW... just the orange, white and black CCS. Excited to try them out.

I'd stay away from yellow pads... with new polishes coming out (m105/95) and PFW, yellow is becoming obsolete... it scours the surface way too much and always needs to be followed up at least once to refine the finish.

PFW cuts better but also leaves a nice surface.

My experience and opinions of course. Others might love the yellow pads.

I have not used a *cutting* pad in a long time. Either via rotary or DA. Between Meg's 105/205, Meg's SOLO yellow wool and LC PFW I just never go for my cutting pads anymore.

As far as what 4" pads you need it depends on what you want to do with them. If you are just using them for spot correction then an orange and a no cut (if you are a M205 user) or white (if you like to use white to finish) should be fine.

If you are going to be doing the majority of your work with 4" pads then figure a PFW, orange, white, and a no cut.

Thanks for the input.

Ivan, like I posted earlier, I didn't get the PFW pad... I haven't detailed a lot of cars yet but I've been successful with my LC orange thus far. Good point about the yellow pads... I rarely see anyone using them in the C&B etc threads.

Jason, I haven't explored non-LC pads yet since I'm sticking to what works for me. Eventually I would like to experiment other brands / types. I'll most probably be using the 4" pads for spot correction, tight areas and head / tail lights. Also planning on using them to remove swirls from my plastic window visors and B pillars. The 5.5" pads work but I think a smaller pad would be ideal.

I got 2 of each LC CCS color (orange, white, black) so I should be set.
