HELP - Wife just painted the tires

I just received a call from my wife who said she ran down a freshly painted curb with the sidewall. How do I get the stuff off? BTW, her "just" is 3 hours ago but she said it's still somewhat "wet".

First Try a tire cleaner (Mother's Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity, Eagle One tire cleaner, meguiar's APC+, etc. etc.) Then scrub like a MOFO.



If that doesn't work, denatured Alcohol or Acetone might remove the paint.



Then follow up with a wash with a old "crap" towel and some car wash soap to neutralize anything on the tire. Then dress...



My dad did the same thing, well not really. Ran over the spilt contents of a can of paint. Clay removed most of the stuff on the paint. But a good scrubbing with EF Hi-Intensity removed the stuff from the wheel wells and tires. This was about an hour after impact.....
 
I think I read someone suggesting some fine steel wool for removing something else just as hard to remove....

I could see steel wool working as a last resort, I mean they're only tires (that get scuffed up anyway :angry ) and people use things like brass brushes on them anyway.
 
Hmmm.... thats one I havent seen before.



I would be worried about the paint more than the tires though. Have her make sure there is no splatter on the body first. If there is, you need to let it dry and try using a clay bar with plenty of lube.



As far as the tires go, I dont know how Paint thinner would affect the rubber but I woulnt think it could do any damage, just put some sort of conditioner on the sidewall afterwards.
 
Yeah, but these are brand new (as in April 30 purchased). I just finished a multi-day detail job on this vehicle and I believe the wife knows how much this rubs me wrong. It's usually very minor to her what happens to the vehicles and how she treats them, but she was real sheepish today.



God should have taught women how to drive before puting them on this earth! (Sorry ladies for the chauvenistic comment, but this crap drives me nuts!) And no, I never make mistakes, just ask my wife. :p
 
Buy yourself a bottle of WD-40 and soak the area down and rub off with a terry cloth.....No more paint! After your done clean the rim and tire as per your usual routine.
 
Baker999, this is your opportunity . . . . . tell you that you forgive her, that it wasn’t her fault. Tell her that you’re sorry that she feels badly for having gotten paint on the tires, and take her out to dinner (and maybe buy here a rose) to help her feel better! It’s like money in the bank - - you never know when you’ll need to draw on that account!
 
When I read your post the first time, I thought you were a woman. Then I thought you were a woman in a man's body. Then I thought you were a man that was just nuts. Then I remembered what I learned in ME. I think you're right about this being a chance to make a deposit. It's kind of a selfish deposit, but a deposit none the less.



I think I'll do it! But be honest. This isn't really you, is it? It's your wife posting under your sign in. :p

BTW,I lived in your friendly city from the late ‘60s to the early ‘80s. I miss the people, but don’t miss the weather!

Whew, that's not as scary as I imagined. When I read that title, I thought your wife had intentionally painted the tires with a brush or a can of spray paint. I hope it turns out okay. Keep us up to date.
 
I,ve always had good luck removing paint form the body or tires with waterless hand cleaner. No pumice though!
