Help! Want to protect new black car, need advice

I believe Toyota/Lexus is one of the very few car makers left that still use a single stage paint for select colors...if I remember correctly, black onyx and crystal white.

My RX 400h is Black Onyx. To get a definitive answer on this, I have e-mailed the question to Lexus customer service. Hopefully, I'll hear whether it is CC or SS directly from them.

According to Lexus customer service:

"The black RX 400h does have a clear coat."

Of course, this doesn't specifically say that all Lexus black onyx vehicles are clear coat, but it does seem to be consistent with the earlier post suggesting as much.

Sorry. It is a Lexus RX 400h. A Lexus forum guru was the one who informed me that Lexus doesn't do clearcoat on their black. Is this typical of other manufacturers? My uninformed assumption was that a manufacturer either used clearcoat or not.

I don't own any Lexus', but on every GM car I've owned the paint code on the build sheet specifies if it's a clearcoat or not. It will have a bc/cc designation before the paint code to signify base-coat/clear-coat. It's possible Toyota/Lexus do the same/similar thing. If you can find your build sheet on the car (often in the trunk or glovebox or under the hood) then you might be able to get a definitive answer about your exact vehicle.
