Can someone help us Newbies?

What exactly should we use for cleaning rims. For my personal, I have the alloy rims. I experimented with different products with almost the same affect. I think I'm going to destroy my rims if I don't get it right soon.



While I'm here, what are some good chemicals for tough spot removal of upholestry and carpet?
 
For the wheels I've used the orange degreaser mixed with water and secondly, I've used the gray Armor Oil wheel cleaning liquid.

For carpet I've used the product that comes with the little green machine and also the Foam Preston from Walmart. ( comes in a red can)
 
Chico - are your rims coated or machined aluminum or ?? The more specific you are the easier to recommend a product.; :)
 
I think they are coated, because a thin layer is peeling off.

So, what I'm gathering, you should use different products for different types of rims?

If you've ever seen the 98 Mazda Millenia, then those are the factory rims I'm referring to.
 
Use Poorboys Pro-polish that will clean the clear that is on the rims.

Question when you where cleaning then dos the rag turn black?
 
I would recomend that he use the Porboys spray and wipe and then the Pro-polish. This way he will not have to worry about the rags turning black when applying the polish. Works well on My Nissan 240SX factory rims.
 
If your clear is pealing off then you have a two fold problem - I would not recommend any type of acid based cleaner (even a mild acid) as it will satin the aluminum that is exposed from the missing clear.

Stay away from all the spray and walk away wheel cleaners and go with somthing like a simple green or a good APC - I would follow that up with a good sealant on the wheels to try and proctect them.
 
So, simple green has no acid correct?

Yeah I noticed when I used the Armor Oil wheel cleaner yesterday, the part that was peeling was kind of white. So is there anyway to fix the peeling part or should I just stop any further damage?

What would be ideal for acid base wheel cleaners?
