Help on info for paint sealant

I'm kinda new to detail and I do it on the side just to keep busy and I love making cars look good. The question I have is about paint sealant. I first found out about them when my grandfather had some guy com a detail his truck. This guy used a paint sealant on it on the truck to finish it off. This made the truck look awesome. When I wash the truck I have to keep the hose right where I'm washing because it beads up so fast a runs off the truck dries before I can even wash it. The truck has not been waxed in like two years and its still like that (not as good as it was at first but still works really good). I never got to ask the guy what kind of paint sealant he used or how he used it. So does any one know of anything that works like that? If so, how do you use it? DO you have to wax or buff first then apply it or what. I have no idea how to use that stuff and have tried to find out on the web but haven't found anything that seems to give me enough information on it. Thanks for the help guys.

The stuff sounds interesting. Is there any way you can find out what he used?

Most of the better sealants have a realistic 6 month life span under average conditions

Billy1882,
You could call the detailer who completed the job your grandfather's truck for the info. It would be interesting to find out what product(s) was/were used. A sealant lasting over two years is amazing, but depends on care and exposure to the earth's natural and man made environmental factors.

If I ever find out what the product is I'll definitely let you know. My grandfather washes it regularly and keeps in the garage at night but its an everyday driver.
