Help needed! How do I get this off? *PICS*

hey everyone, since i bought my car i noticed quite a large amount of overspray on my exhaust tips. i decided today was the day to tackle it and get them shining again. after much research on this site, i decided to go with #0000 steel wool + nano polish. Here are my failed attempts.

my question to you all is: How do I get this off?!! :)



i would like to mainly use OTC products as i am going back to school soon and running out of time to detail. do i go with a more abrasive wool/ polish? and advice would be appreciated. thank you! :grinno:
 
try a steel wool stronger than #0000 i forgot how it's rated now but i know #0000 is very fine, get a rougher wool then polish down with different grades to get the shine back. or give Never Dull a try. Or if a else fails but new tips !!!

Lacquer thinner and a scotch brite will take it right off very quickly. Regular paint thinner(mineral spirits) will take forever to break it down if it is automotive paint, but if thats all you got, that will work. Then polish it out. You may not even need to use a scotch brite...Just a plain ole rag and a little elbow grease will probably do the trick

^haha thanks alot. ill give it a shot tomorrow morning. with the NYC weather these days, its making detailing much easier.
 
That's a relief. When I saw "Aircraft Remover" I was thinking about one of these...

...and I was just afraid there wouldn't be much left to polish after that.
 
brake parts cleaner will take it right off, u can spray it right on just dont get it on the cars paint and it will drip right off, or spray it on a towel and wipe it right off..
 
Is there a retainig screw on the tips that you can easily get to? Pulling them off will make it a lot easier to get to, and you won't have to worry about the weather any longer. You can sit in your pad, watching TV and you lovingly clean and polish them.
 
alright guys, here's an update. i went to the local hardware store and got some paint thinner. i used it in conjunction with #0000 steel wool and it wouldnt budge. so i tried soaking a rag in the thinner and holding it to the paint. after the paint softened, i used a razor blade and slowly scraped away the paint. it worked, but now it left a whole bunch of hairline scratches on the tips. not really noticeable until you're up close. but i would like to polish them out. anyone know of a decently abrasive metal polish that would get the scratches out?

If the scratches are deep enough to catch your fingernail you'll have to sand and polish.
