Help Needed ASAP - Mold In Carpet!!

I did a wash 'n wax on a Land Rover LR3 for a regular customer today, and when I lifted up the front passenger floor mat, I found a bunch of mold - mostly very dark brown, some green and white and it was wet/damp. I am planning on going back tomorrow to take care of the mold - what should I use? What are the best available (OTC - I need to get them for tomorrow) products for this? I have several different APCs, but I think I might need something more powerful. Thanks!
 
More importantly, why was there mold?? If the air conditioner is leaking on the passenger side floor, you won't ever be able to get rid of it because it will just come right back until they get the leak fixed. You may want to bring this up to the customer as soon as you can so they don't think you had anything to do with it.
 
bleach in a spray can, i have this problem with cars i work with (ford taurus has this common problem) and also because we install police lights and equipment.



If theres already mold there its so unbelievably unhealthy and disgusting i recommend removing all seats, center console...anything bolted to the floor and spray bleach absolutely all over the floor so it doesn't come back.



I seriously hope that the LR3 is covered under warranty because if it is i would INSIST that the carpet gets replaced (theres probably mold under it as well).

To kill mold a 10 to 1 works for bleach but you may want to look into removing the padding on the carpet and replacing it with similar padding. I wouldnt want to put the bleach on the carpet without making sure it doesnt remove the dye first. Some carpet cleaning solutions have a fungicide in it also. The "mixed" synthetic backing that looks like pressed together felt can usually be found at Home Depot or such as carpet padding.



Better make sure that no matter what you do the customer is OK with it
 
Walgreens (and other places) sell a product called Hibiclens. It's fairly cheap. Usually, it is used as a pre-surgery scrub. However, it is a very powerful anti-bacterial, anti-microbal solution. A good spray and scrub with this stuff will kill nearly everything. I'm a diver, and we use it in rebreather diving to clean breathing loops. There are some other products too, but this one is cheap and readily available.



But if you've got that much mold around, there is bound to be a HUGE issue somewhere. I agree with the others, that asking for new carpet should be high on the owner's list, once the leak is found. When I was offroading and getting my carpets wet in my Land Rover, I pulled all the carpet out and just used rubber mats. Mold is bad news.
 
Land Rover discoverys and now LR3s are known for having small condensation problems under the passenger side of the dash. I believe there was a recall on it on the 05s. You might want him to consult with the dealer.
