This dog grabs attention like no other we walked into the pet store and people were just blown away at how pretty she is. Her color design is perfect and she really stands out. Also this puppy is really really smart, I was walking her and it didn't take long for her to start walking beside me and would stop when I did (have to keep that up).

wytstang- Hey, that's a great looking pup, way to go! Good name for her too.

Yeah, keep up all the training/etc. so she grows up right :xyxthumbs

Oh, and you might oughta give her nails a clipping, looks like they haven't been done yet (heh heh, sorry :o this is a pet peeve of mine, I'm constantly bugging my friends about doing it). Hers are long enough that it should be pretty easy to take a little bit off without any risk of a boo-boo. We do ours every night, even if it's just faking it because they don't really need done. The nightly ritual has worked great for getting them 100% OK with having their nails done, which sure beats having to wrassle with 'em when they're older if they decide they don't like it. Tip: get the clippers that look like pliers, *not* the ones with the sliding blade. And take off the "guard" thing that's supposed to make it easy to not go too far, it's utterly worthless and leads *to* going too far.

Funny you should mention the clippers as I was going to buy the one with the sliding blade lol. I didn't stand there and read them just at a glance I hought that should be easy. I will probably attemp it this Sat comming up.

I've trimmed nails for more years than I can remember, on bulldogges and the big Standards.

Trimming the nails is easier if they're clear. That way you can see the 'quick' and not get close but if you do and get blood, have cornstarch handy.

It's a superfine powder that acts as a styptic pencil sort of thing and works quite well. Cigarette ash works in a pinch but not many people smoke anymore.

I like Accumulator's idea of going through the ritual of trimming very frequently too. If you do the frequent technique, you can take frequent thin shavings instead of bigger snips.

She's a real cutie pie and she'll be running the household soon if not already. :)

WELCOME Shelby! Isn't it just amazing how smart they really are?

You want to really have some fun and be proud of your pup? Attend classes in your area where they train the dog, and more importantly you, to qualify for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Certificate You can also get training to be a Therapy Dog.

Both my dogs have attended these courses and I can tell you, they really get into it! And when I walk them in public areas they are so well behaved people always comment on it.

Here's an example of a typical training schedule http://www.thek9clubtraining.com/training.asp. Obvioulsy it's not in your area but you get the idea.

Also, be cautious of dog parks, they can be very dangerous for many dogs.

And SuperGlue works well for the bigger mistakes, not that those'll be too frequent. Heh heh, yeah you gusy whose dogs have clear nails have it easy :D The Beaucerons have black nails along with their double dewclaws (two more nails each time  ) Oh, and that's right about trying for "shavings" instead of just lopping them off. I replace the clippers fairly often so they're always nice and sharp.

DFTowels CGC suggestion is also very good and a CGC certificate can go a long way towards convincing people that your dog is one of the "good pits" if you ever need to do that. And yeah, obedience/agility/etc. classes are invaluable, if only because they get your dog used to being around other dogs and people while still listening to *you*.

You've got me all eager to find our next pup! Got dibs on some potential litters, but they're not due until April and June.

Accumulator,

Great idea with the superglue. As long as I've been trimming our dogs' nails, I've never even given superglue a thought. Old habits die hard I guess, but I'll have some superglue onsite from now on. I've seen/heard it being used for cuts also, it does a great job of bonding skin back together.

Now for your next/new dog. Have I mentioned the merits of 'Daisy Duke' as a name? OK, I'll stop now.

I have talked to my wife about that (training classes) and she wants to hold off, the classes start late in the day and I work 2nd shift so I can't attend. My wife is military and by the time she getts off work is pretty tired (traffic is pretty bad around those times as well). Dog parks are not in our game plan, we have been walking her on base. They have great walking trails with plenty of postive people to help socialize her around humans. I have been reading plenty of articles and internet sits with awesome information on how to train bully breeds (do's and dont's). I'm also buying here human grade/Super premium dog food (Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul : Home) highly recommened for all breeds...
