Help me pick polishes

Right now my detailing arsenal is entirely Meguiar's I have been using 83 and 80 anytime I need to remove swirls and minor scratches. I work by PC. If there are any other cleaner/polishes that are better or easier to use I would like to know. I haveonly used Meguiar's products so please explain why so and so product is better than either 83 or 80.

You are going to get tons of opinions on this one. Most agree that its the persons skill level more than the products that gets great results. However, I believe you should try Menzerna 106ff. You can find some at Autogeek.net. It leaves one of the best finishes out there. It is somewhat pricey though but the bottle should last you a good amount of time.
 
Never used Megs #80 or #83, but I, too think you should try 106FF. Cuts very well for a finishing polish, but leaves one of the best finishes out there, IMO. If the price is too steep for you, look into the Blackfire Scratch Resistant Clear Finishing Polish, which is the same thing as 106FF but in smaller (16oz) bottles. It can be found at CMA and Pakshak.

I just started using the blackfire fp and i'm loving it. I use menzerna ip for correction then the blackfire fp cleans up any hazing or micro marring. And yeah it leaves a great finish.

Heh heh, that's a fair statement :xyxthumbs



For somebody wanting to try something other than Meguiar's, I'd recommend what I almost always recommend...1Z. These products are somewhat similar to the Meguiar's ones in that they leave stuff behind, but 1Z leaves wax and Meg's leaves "trade secret oils".



The Ultra/Extra is stronger than #83 but still works easily by PC/hand.



The Paint Polish is similar to #80 with a bit more cut and it leaves more protection (not fresh-paint-friendly like #80 though). Does a bit more concealing too.



The MetallicPolish is sorta like #82/#9, or maybe #66, as it's like a very mildly abrasive cleaner-wax.



The above have hardly *ever* stained black trim. They're about as easy to use a polishes get. They're effective. Only reason I can think of *not* to try them is if you're using a LSP that requires a "clean" surface to bond to (in which case I'd go with Menzerna).

I'm looking specifically for something that is a little stronger than 83 and doesn't dust as much if possible.



Also, for a pure polish, what are some good choices? I was looking at vanilla moose.

Agreed, all the major brand polishes are excellent so I look for other traits to help me decide, like little or no dusting. That is one of the main reasons I use Optimum polishes. Excellent results and even in the full sun on hot days they work pretty much dust free.

Optimum Hyper Compound fills that need perfectly.

Vanilla Moose and Red Machine Glaze are excellent final polishes/glazes especially under carnaubas.



Don't discount final polishes that leave protection, Optimum's Poli-Seal, Werkstatt's Primes, Zaino All in One or Klasse AIO are all top quality products and make great bases for sealants.
 
So today I used Sonus Restore SFX-1 for the first time and I loved it. It was great at removing most of the swirls out of my black Mazda 6. How do polishes such as Optimum and Menzerna compare to Sonus Restore in terms of cutting ability and ease of use?



I used Turtle Wax Polishing Compound to take out some more serious defects and it worked great as well....especially for the $5 I paid for it.



I did this work by PC.
