Help me pick a QD ...

Z8 and 425 are two different animals....Z8 is far more durable than 425...Z8 is a spray sealant type product..425 is a Quick Detail product..just to spruce up the shine with a short life span..425 will wash away in 1-2 rains..or a wash or 2...

I got to try Z8 from a friend..did my tailgate with it...was a very nice product and it lasts...

I bought a gallon of 425 when it was the rage...I found after a rain or a wash...the paint was sorta grabby..the slickness was gone ...some others experienced the same...

425 does a good job of bringing the shine and slickness up..but is very short lived...also can smear with some products...

When I was comparing 425 to Z8, I was asking if he only used it for special occasions, not an all purpose QD.

From the way it sounds, I guess 146 would be more suited to my needs than 425 because of its post-wash abilities.

Z8 will have much better durability than 425, and it is also easier to use. IMO Duragloss Aquawax is a lot like Z8, so if you're looking for a Z8-type product it's a no-brainer.

Another good product that would fit your needs is the CG Extreme Synthetic Detailer that you mentioned; I find that it performs a lot like 425. Very slick, looks good, can smear a bit on application. Oh and only like $21 a gallon at our forum sponsor Danase.com after 10%forum discount.

Totally agree. Get CG for the qd or even the pro detailer (if you have a carnauba topper). DG AW is another no brainer and both have great pricing.

No, I think you'd be better off with a gloss-leaning QD like FK425 or CG Synthetic (similar products but the CG is less expensive). Or, if you're looking for something more substantial but slightly less versatile/lucibrous, there's a light spray sealant like DG AW. Oh, and since you are using Collinite 845 which has some carnauba in it, you may also want to think about the CG Pro Detailer w/carnauba that ashsharna mentioned. :2thumbs:

A cleaning QD like FK146 or CG Speed Wipe (not Synthetic) would offer more lubricity for cleaning off dust and dirt, but not as much slickness, gloss, or durability. So since you are only looking to use a QD as a post-wash aid, the glossy QD's/spray sealants I mentioned in the above paragraph should fit your needs perfectly. Also, all four are available in gallons at decent prices.

I'm pretty much sold on the FK1 425, even without the Autopian discount its cheaper than the CG's stuff when shipped and it was what I had preferred out of the 2.

My only question is if 425 is suitable as a clay lube? Ive been looking around and not finding an answer.

yes great clay lube

quote from the lable: "excellent for use as a clay lubricant"

(also on the web site if you look for it)
