Help me choose a color....

Hey guys,

I'm ordering a Cobalt SS next week and I'm having trouble picking a color. I know its a subjective thing, but I need some advice. I would love to have a nice bright blue or white, but sadly they dont make either :bawling: I'm leaning towards silver, but its just so boring!

Color choice are:

Yellow

Orange

Silver

Black

Bright red

Dark red

Bright blue/purple

I know I don't want yellow or the blue as it way too purple. The dark red is very dark and is an extra cost, the bright red is nice, the silver is nice but as I said before a little boring. Orange is getting pretty played out, not sure its a color that will still be cool in 3 years.

Is buying a Black car stupid? Its very rare that you see a nice black car but when you do its beautiful! On the other hand silver always looks good. Red, black or silver?

Lets hear your opinions!

In my opinion...

Yes, you don't see too many black cars that look good. Black is great if you are willing to commit to keeping it nice. I did it for three years, but it got tiring.

Red would good on a car like yours. I think it is somewhat demanding to care for, though not as difficult as black.

As you said earlier, silver "always" looks good. That's because it is the easiest of the three to take care of, and shows surface defects the least of the three colors.

It all comes down to a question of how much the car will be driven, and how much you want to work to make it look it perfect.

But silver is a hard color to make look nice. I would definitely either choose the bright red or the black. Maybe the bright red would be my final choice.

x2, this is right along the lines of what I was thinking.

I'd do red (if you won't do yellow). GM red rocks. The other colors are just too common, and red is making a comeback in the market right now.

Then lean away from it man, just lean away...

A well maintained car always looks cool. Just keep it glossy. Everybody else’s will look like crap within nine months.

PC.

Red..I seen one in Red and was sweet..I like red anyways..I have a Red 04 truck...it is close to maintaining as black..

When Red is done right and wet looking...WOW...real head turner

Having owned a zillion red and black cars, and having said "I'll *always have a black car", I'd vote for silver. Yeah, it *can* look special if you want to put in the work. But more importantly it can look good with very little time and effort.

For a garage queen, sure, pick a cool color and have fun. But for something that's gonna get used all the time I'd choose a color that doesn't need attention after the first five miles. Back when I had black (and to a lesser extent red) cars, I had to wash them so often that it was a major part of my life and I can think of better ways to spend one's time. And that's leaving aside the whole issue of visible marring...

Silver's too awkward for touching in paint defects IMO......it takes too many colours to make the silver, and can look out off place if you get any paint problems.

I've had four black cars now, and each one looked the dogs danglies when detailed, but 15 minutes later you'll be seeing that 'son-of-a-*****' dust layer. How much patience do you have ?

RED ROCKS !! :D

Yeah, matching silver *can* be a real pain. Sometimes it goes OK (good thing, as our vehicles have had a lot of paintwork) and sometimes it doesn't. I've gotten to where I seldom even bother with stuff like chips because the repair will show almost as badly as the original problem :(

But red can be problematic in this regard too, mainly after a few years if/when it "ages" differently in the repainted areas. One thing that might give me pause with red is that I just can't stand it when it's not *really* nice. A perfectly polished red is great, but one that needs work always looks crappy to me. Heh heh, not that an Autopian would settle for that, huh? But it gets back to the whole "how much work do you want" thing.

Who am I to talk, I bought the Byzanz metallic M3 because I was tired of all my silver vehicles and wanted to have a pretty color that I'd enjoy looking at (during all those hours I'm spending detailing it :o ).

Ok, now for something completely different. I'm voting for dark red. I've had black, blue, charcoal, silver, green and bright red and they all have their pros and cons. As was said by BoxsterCharlie GM red rocks. Well their dark red rocks too. I love mine and with the right sealants or wax it is stunning. So bite the bullet and pay a little bit more.

Here's another thing to consider. I have never seen a Cobalt SS in dark red either. It'll be more rare and you won't see yourself coming every five minutes. Whatever you choose it'll look great as the Cobalt SS is a great coupe. Happy motoring and detailing. :2thumbs:

My previous vehicle was a Cobalt SS/SC. I was fortunate enough to have the Arrival Blue Metallic color offered in 2005 only. You will have a lot of fun with the Cobalt for sure! I traded mine in because...like almost any first year vehicle there were a lot of issues that became very annoying (rattles, small mechanical annoyances).

Anyway, in my opinion the SS/SC looks fantastic in the new Dark red w/ the optional chrome/polished wheels. Unfortunately black on the Cobalt SS/SC just does not stand out IMO like some of the other colors offered. Good luck on your choice! Here is a pic of my old one:

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I still might end up going for the non supercharged version and then I can get white. This car looks really hot in white, at least I think so.

AutoCannon, I love the Arrival Blue! Thats the color I really want!

This is such a hard choice!:wall

They all look so good!

Well I own a bright red vehicle and a black one. IMO black is harder than red to keep up with.

Someone had told me previously that red retained the highest resale value of all colors. Your post got me to thinking about this and so I did some Google searches on this. It seems that black, white, and silver are all popular colors for resale.

The following is from ZWire! Automotive Content:

No choice is more important than color. Color determines the whole personality of your car. Unusual color schemes may seem glamorous at first, but they'll have less resale value when you try to trade in your car 5 years from now. The most popular colors are white, black, silver/gray, and medium red. Bright red is most popular on small cars and sports cars. If you have trouble deciding, choose the one that the manufacturer uses in the brochure and advertises for that model. It'll be the color in which the car looks best.

White is popular because it always looks crisp and clean and seems to say "high class". White also reflects heat, so your air-conditioner works less and you save fuel. White is also the most durable paint color, the easiest to touch up and the easiest to clean. According to studies performed by Daimler-Benz engineers, white is also 1200% more visible than dark colors, so it's even safer than other hues.
