HELP - how to remove RAINX? it jacked up my windows

My rear windows are HAZING and FOGGIN like a CHAMP, everytime at night the temperature gets cold or when it's raining or is wet on the surface, the windows are ALL HAZED and FOGGED OUT. you can even see the swirls by which I must have applied the stuff. it is horrible and it is ruining my car's appearance.

The front had it too but its almost all gone because of probably the wiper blade and the fact its in the front?

What can i use to remove this rainx stuff? its driving me NUTS!

Sorry, but it's really cheap. And it is harmless to paint (although I would try not to get any on your paint). You can wipe down the wiper blades with it also, then use a little 303 or whatever to get them all nice again.

I know of nothing else, including isopropyl alchohol, that will remove it. Gasoline would, but that just wouldn't be kosher.

Lighter fluid is just Napatha. Any hardware, paint, or home center will have it. Also, most grocery stores will sell lighterfluid. Its just hard to find, cause they don't want to sell it to minors.

When you get rid of the RainX get yourself some Aquapel. It does what RainX is supposed to do but doesn't mess up your glass. Wipers glide easily over it and it lasts for months! :xyxthumbs

Don't give up on your rainX just yet. It is still a great product but there is a trick to getting it not to haze. The best way to apply it is to put it on right before you wash your car. Then make sure you hit the windows with either the soap brush at the car wash, or your sponge if you are doing it in the driveway. If you do it that way then you won't have any problems with the haze anymore. :xyxthumbs

Cybercowboy is right on about the lighter fluid. Here is the procedure Ron tought me, it works well at removing Rain-X

1. Apply the lighter fluid. (Let it sit on there for a few minutes to break the sillicone bond)

2. Clean the windshield with an all-purpose cleaner (like 409 or Fantastic) to help remove some of the lighter and silicones from the Rain-X

3. Flush the windshield with plenty of water (like from a hose)

4. Finally, clean the glass with your favorite glass cleaner.

Presto, no more Rain-X :xyxthumbs

I have found that this works well! IMO, this is the best and only way to apply Rain-X, and it never hazes.

Just wanted you to know that Jngrbrdman isn't the only one here who uses Rain-X.

I think I've found my long lost brother! :D I'm glad that I'm not alone on this board. :xyxthumbs

Jngrbrdman, that sounds like a good way to put on rain-X. I've got some that I tried but didn't like since it hazed my window. I think I'm going to try that method out this weekend when I wash.

Intel486: so what's the verdict? how were your results with the RainX applied this way?

i have always had the same problem, and i just got put on to a new solution today, before removing the first application, spray a small amount of meguires final inspection and wipe with a towel, then follow with a completly dry micro fiber, works wonders in preventing the haze latter on

That makes three. Just used it yesterday. I have been using it for 12+ years with no problems.

I've been using Rain-X for 6 years and never had any problems with it. I think it's the way you apply it that makes all the difference.

The Rain-X product I hated was the one against fogging.

I stripped Rain-X yesterday and put STP Visionblade (Aquapel) on.

I will post the results in couple weeks.

ive found Rain-x quite good - not as good as Myers windscreen gel - the gel is thin and when applied and dryed on a windscreen causes immense sheeting - no water droplets what so ever - but it only lasts 1-2 days max - and it costs £7.50 per 30ml bottle - so its a bit of a rip off.

Thanks Jngrbrdman, I have a 22 oz. bottle of Rain-X sitting un used in the bin. The BMW dealer said to use Rain-X on the rims to cease the brake dust, worked for 2 days, then back to normal. I think he was refering to the Rain-X wheel protectant YoSteve uses........

Since the BMW is driven so rarely (twice a month), a good cleaning and a coat of Klasse AIO will do.

I hope Rain-X perofrms well with this new method of applying it, dissapointing in the past.
