HELP: Good Source for Business Cards??

David Fermani

Forza Auto Salon
I need to get a box or 2 of business card printed. How are you using and what are you paying? They are multi-colored and may or may not be just 1 sided.

I've heard of them, but have yet to try. I'll check out their prices.

I might want to do some colored flyers too or large/think oversized cards.

Got a mailer from them this week for a special on postcard mailer cards.

Not something I need, but for a regular business, the price was right on them.

My little side business of doing the stainless trim is jumping.

Was over at the collector car auction yesterday to get some more head's up on the cars as they come in for the sale Monday and was approached by three new clients for the service.

When I asked how they knew of me, in all three cases it was referals from some poeple I had done work for or a couple of bodyshops in the area I had talked to.

Looks like I have created a monster with this thing, more work than I may want.

Vistaprint is AWESOME at just about anything that has to do with marketing.

That said, my last round of cards came from GotPrint They can do rounded corners and glossy, which Vistaprint couldn't. Shipping was absolutely atrocious, but that probably won't be an issue for you. The cards were perfect, colors were perfect, printing was perfect, no complaints at all.

Good to know your side-business is doing well. A nice little niche there!

Accumulatorette is very happy with her cards from VistaPrint :xyxthumbs

One of these days I gotta get some cards made up that explain about the Beaucerons, I get tired of answering the "what kind of dog is that?" questions all the time.

I used Vista Print on a promotion they had. They must have got together and decided to put millions into Google AdWords. There wasn't a website I went on that didn't pop up with a VP add. That being said, they do sneak in charges, but it was still reasonable and fairly easy to use. I got tricked thinking the back of the card came with the premium design I paid for, but they charged an extra $7 for it. That is my fault, so just make sure you look at the charges carefully. I set a budget, it was met and so I clicked purchase. All it had on the back was my slogan and website, which pretty much cost the same as the design on the front. I'll be careful the next time.

But in the end, each card is less than a nickel and it took 10 minutes to do (after searching through designs for a 1/2 hour).

Another +1 for VistaPrint, got 500 cards for $10. Its kind of annoying when you go through checkout and they ask you if you're interested in pretty much everything under the sun, but if you just click through without buying anything you can a good standard business card for cheap.

I use Vistaprint as well. I do the design myself on MS publisher and upload to them. I also use the gold foil on my cards. been very happy.

I used vistaprint for my photography business cards. I bought a groupon for some deal, logged on to there website after designing the cards in photoshop. I added a bunch to my cart, enough to equal the credit i got from my groupon, it was one of those pay $20 get $50 worth of products things. Well i added enough to equal the credit i had, then on the final screen it asked for my promo code. I entered it and suddenly all the prices increased and i owed them $30 more than my groupon was worth. That's shady business in my opinion. Two seperate prices depending on if you have a coupon or not? Sketch. I spent my groupon and won't be back.

Many Groupon deals are like that though. You really have to watch it with those deals. I always research any that we might buy and it's never as good as it sounds. Like $10 for a $20 gift card and the fine print says, "must spend $80". So you think you're getting 1/2 off, when in reality you're getting 12% discount. People also make up deals. I say a production detail shop offer a "wash detail AND wax detail, regularly $80, for only $50!" But if you look it up, a wash is $30, a wax is $50 and if you buy both at the same time, they do it for $60. So you save $10.

VISTA PRINT SUCKS!!!! I ordered from them some "premium" glossy business cards and they were horrible!

I use gotprint.net before, but the site was down at the time, so I tried out VP, never again will I go elsewhere...GotPrint is hands down much better quality!!!!

What made them horrible Eric?

Ive ordered business cards, shirts, sweat shirts, car magnets, and postcards from them. No issues.

However, it is easy enough to print your own business cards if you know how to design them.

David,

I recommend OvernightPrints.com, i've used VistaPrint but the cards weren't the best quality.

I paid about $36 for 500 business cards front and back. Since I like the quality, I will be ordering a higher quantity next time.

I too use gotprint.com exclusively and have always been happy. My cards are matte black and I like how they come out. Vista print was a bit less quality from what I remember so I stuck with gotprint

First, so no one can call me a spammer or a shill, let me come right out and state that I work for the sister company of OvernightPrints (ONP) and we do all of ONP's printing here in Louisville, KY due to our close proximity to UPS's worldwide hub.

Now saying that, let me state that ONP has a reputation for having some of the highest quality business cards in the industry. To start off with, we use 15pt card stock which is much thicker and more durable than what most other business card printers in the industry use. The benefit of this is when you hand your business card to a potential customer, the card will not bend or wrinkle as easily as this card is stuck in a wallet or handled, etc. so the card should keep a "solid" look longer. Also, the thickness and durability of the card just gives it a more professionally made feel, hopefully the customer will subconsciously associate such professionalism with your work.

Another thing about ONP materials is that it is printed with waterless ink. Waterless ink is MUCH, MUCH more expensive than traditional ink used in the industry but is used because the printed image will be much sharper. It is also much more environmentally friendly. Also the UV coatings used on ONP cards are very expensive compared to industry norm but they do give ONP cards a very nice glossy or matte (your choice) finish and also provide a degree of water resistance to protect the cards. A large client base for ONP business cards is professional photographers due to the quality of the graphics. Often these photographers want a model's face or similar image on their cards and the image on an ONP card is just as good as an image in a magazine due to the use of waterless ink and the coatings. An image of a prestine car in the background may make sense for a detailer.

Saying that, my guess is if you shop around, ONP will be the most expensive cards you will find but I would also bet they are the best card stock, graphics and coating too. ONP cards are not for everyone. For a large well known corporation who is only interested in basic white background, simple logo and basic info type cards, ONP would probably be over kill. For a smaller gig which is trying to get "out" into the market, a card that "stands out" may make sense and paying the extra amount for quality cards may make more sense.

Again, I have to admit, I work for the company that prints these cards so of course I'm biased but, I will hold up our work to anyone else in the industry.
