Help! Body Shop "Repaired" My Car

As much as I hate to keep the lid on the can of wroms, lol, I think I'll leave it alone. I sure don't want it to get any worse than it already is. I will definately be looking for a detailer in a few months once the paint can be polished. Mikenap, do you come to the Greenville area for details? If not, I'll be hitting the road when the time comes. Looks like you or Chris will be my closest choices. Hope you're ready for a challenge ha ha.

It's a bit of a hike for a part-timer like me, but I do know someone in the Greenville area that might be able to help. Otherwise, Chris or I would be happy to lend a hand.

Thanks to everyone for all of the replies. I'll get in touch with Mike or Chris in a few weeks to set up a detail. :up

Why are certain waxes acceptable for new paint and others are not?

Mainly it comes down to the types of waxes/polymers/etc. used in a given product. Some will prevent the finish from off-gassing (curing) whereas others will protect the finish while still allowing it to cure properly.

The others here have given great advice... If you aren't too worried about the small detailed items left in the finish such as the chips, etc then have a professional detailer take a look at them to see what they can do. From pictures it's just too hard to give advice on what needs to be done. Anything under the clear of course will not come out. No need to wait to have the scratches and overspray removed. In my opinion, the sooner the better because the clear is still soft and easier to work with and remove (overspray wise). Mike Nap and his buddy down in your area are great guys and highly recommended, no need to drive up here to Charlotte unless you just want to take a road trip. ;)

I'd talk with the body shop about it if the detailer can repair the issues and have them pay the bill. I've done this many times for customers who had body shops mess up their car with exact same scenarios such as this and got the body shop to pay for most of the bill, especially overspray issues. If not then the rest is up to you because then your just going to go into more issues with a repaint such as too many coats applied if they do it yet AGAIN and do not sand the previous coats down enough, possibly screwing up other panels, etc.

All in all, let a pro detailer look at it and go from there. The sooner the better since the clear will be easy to work with while not fully cured, plus if you end up having to go back to the body shop they won't say that you've had it for a long time now and they will claim that they didn't do it.

Good luck!

Thanks Shawn. I am checking into A local detailer. If I don't hear from him, looks like I have a few choices all about 90+ minutes away.
