Help a newb! What polish for UPGP?

With the Claybar, make sure you have the car washed WELL, so that NO dirt can come from anywhere.



The only risk you have of scratching is if a peice of dirt gets stuck in the claybar, and then you rub that all over your car...



As long as there is no dirt on the car, and you use enough lube to make it GLIDE along like its on butter, you will have no problems with it!

Ill get practice on an older vehicle with all this before I touch the new one, lol :)
 
So I got my order today and I cannot believe how small the bottle is for the UPGP! I guess the 4oz part never really clicked as to how little that actually is.



They state "a single 4 ounce bottle is enough product to coat a mid-size vehicle up to 20 times". I will be AMAZED if this coats an entire vehicle twice....let alone 20 times. lol. It must go on VERY thin!

Wow, I was about to refute this, but I see that the UGPG is much cheaper now than when it came out...it's down to $40 for 12 oz from the original $70, plus it's on sale right now for $32!
 
My big question now: it states in the UPGP directions to use polish IF swirl marks, water spots or other defects exist. I dont see these issues on the new car....should I bother using the ultima paint prep plus on this vehicle? I got the sonus clay to use pre-seal too.....if you want to take that into consideration.
 
It's always best to use a pre-wax cleaner to make sure the surface is prepped for best LSP performance. In some cases the clay will perform this task, but not always. I'm presuming you bought the UPPP, so I would do the wash, gentle claying, UPPP, and then the UPGP. With regular washings and periodic application of the UGPG, it should be a long time before you need to use the prep product again.
 
And there is little I have to worry about with the sonus claying(using their glyde lubricant) and the UPPP? Just wash real well beforehand and be gentle....thats my plan. Im going to practice on my winter vehicle first. Its paint is much worse so if I dont see an improvement on that vehicle im hesitant to even bother on the new one :)
 
Don't worry so much. New cars frequently have a lot of stuff stuck on them because they leave the factory with no protection and sit out during transit and on the lot. You'll be glad you did the prep work on the new car. Don't use the whole bar of clay at once, break it up into smaller pieces in case you drop it. Check it frequently and turn it or knead it, and if it gets too dirty switch to another piece. The Sonus clay is very gentle, but if you get a big piece of contamination stuck in it and keep swiping it across the car it could be a problem. You might want to keep a bucket of water handy and clean off the surface of the claw with your fingers in the water periodically, and before you knead it, to remove, rather than entrain, the gunk.

It's more like if you only coated the vehicle twice, you couldn't tell if the bottle was brand new or not. It'd be essentially full.

yep - and factor in exchange rates and the fact that most stuff in the UK is the same £ as it is $ in the US, and a small bottle of UPGP from the US is a good bit cheaper than Z-CS...



Z-CS is a cheeky 6oz versus 8oz for the OS and at 50% more cost :lol
 
I just wanted to update:



I used all my new products this weekend. Spent most of the day doing it all(all by hand)! First washed with Megs gold class soap, dried with plush MF, clayed with sonus clay and sonus glyde, buffed with plush MF, polished with UPPP and supplied sponge, buffed with plush MF, applied UPGP with supplied MF pad.



I will say that I doubt ill clay again anytime soon. Maybe just spot treat with it....does anybody do that? I didnt get much with the clay except the hood. I did notice contaminates on the clay as I did the hood. The UPPP really seemed to deepen the look of my dark metallic charcoal paint. The next day you could really feel the difference....I have never felt paint so smooth. The whole car feels like glass. Cant wait to wash again to see how the water acts on the new surface.



Also, the UPGP made my trim look fantastic! Just as someone mentioned. I think I applied it too thick in some spots as the next morning I noticed some residue. I buffed off what I could see. I went out today and it all seemed gone....maybe it just cured more during the following day and blended in? Maybe I actually got it all by hand? I dont know.



Thanks everybody for the great advice and tips. Other than my legs killing me the following day it all seemed to go well. Now I have to try out the 303 on the interior!
