Hi guys,

I've been using Meguiars Gold Class for over a year now and I'm very happy with the results but it doesn't seem to last too long. I've looked on their website and have found Medallion Premium and #26 High Tech wax. What puts me off is the quite involved method of using - apply, wait for a haze, drag your finger across panel and if it "balls" then polish off, risk damaging finish if left to dry to a powder. Any thoughts/comments/views on this as it seems to be a bit of a performance?

Anyone had any experience with the #20 polymer sealant - supposed to be easier to use and outlast wax by quite a bit.

Thanks in advance for the advice of the masters, whatever wax you recommend it will have to like rain as I live in the UK and drive a black car!!

Take care and keep 'em shining.

from what ive read, and experienced, Zaino, Pinnacle and Zymol are very good waxes which last pretty long. But you need the klasse step (AIO and SG) for it to work out best.

I've used #20 and #26. They are good products. #20 is a polymer like Klasse and Zaino. It applies easily, provides a good measure of protection, and lasts a long time. I reccomend it. If you can get Klasse, though, I'd look into that too. I have never used Klasse, but I have seen it on an actual car, and it has a slightly better shine than #20, while appearing to offer the same longetivity and protection. Don't worry, though- #20 has an outstanding shine all by itself.

#26 is also a very good wax. In fact, I used #20 and #26 together- a base of #20 and a #26 topper. The #26 did wonders my car's appearance. Good stuff. Application wasn't bad either. By the time I had finished applying wax to the whole car, the #26 would have hazed and would be ready to remove. Longetivity is OK- about a month, if the weather is good and you wash weekly. In winter or the rainy season, 3-4 weeks. Blitz lasts longer, but #26 is definately right up there in terms of staying power.

I would definately give #20 and #26 a try. Hope this helps.

I'd really go with the #26 - when I used Meguiar's products, it was my favorite, in terms of both shine and durability. The major downsides - it stains the hell out of black trim, and it's a real PITA to get on and off.

Is Blitz Wax something that is attainable for you? As far as durability goes, it is one of the better waxes out there.

One Grand Blitz or Meguiars #26 Paste are two of the longest lasting waxes available. However, there are synthetic polymer alternatives close to carnauba in shine with even better durability.

Whatever wax you choose, remember that proper techniques are much more important than the product itself. Be sure to use clean applicators and soft towels. Good luck!

If you are going to go strictly with Carnauba wax, Blitz is probably the longest lasting. Maybe 6 to 8 weeks. Souveran is easier to work with and the best shine I have seen, but is fairly expensive and lasts about a month. If you really want long lasting shine or protection, sealants are the best. There are a few that have gotten the thumbs up here on Autopia. Klasse, Zaino and most recently Blackfire. They each have their own good and bad points, but IMO they all surpass wax in longevity. The shine of each is slightly different, but Blackfire coming the closest to a wax shine. Ease of application, Zaino probably is the leader. Durability...Klasse and Zaino about the same and Blackfire somewhat less. Some people like wax toppers, but as far as I know, Zaino should not be topped with wax.

So there are a bunch of possible choices. I have tried many of them and have been pleased with them all. I find it difficult to say which is best unless you specify what property is most important to you....

Souveran looks incredible, but I think he is looking for something more durable than what he is using now (goldclass). :)

I havn't been able to get souveran to last a whole month :(

I beg to differ :)

Tons of good advice guys, my thanks to you all. It seems that I've been on the right track and using decent products to start with. The pity is that we've nothing like the range of products or, for that matter, the amount of interest on this side of the pond. People are still actually paying money for Turtle Wax and using it!!

I think I'll give the #20 polymer sealant a go, from the comments I've read it seems to last quite well and is easy to use.

I'm coming to Orlando, Florida end of July-early August, if there are any decent retailers or even any shows going on please let me know.

Thanks to you all.

beg all you want, man! You have the right to your opinion, but in the same respect I have the right to have a better looking car! :p

(kidding, BTW...)

If you want the longest lasting by far, try Collinite pure #1 carnauba. The stuff holds up for 4-5 months, even on rocker panels subjected to snow/slush/sand, etc. Actually, I think all of the Collinite products are very long lasting. You may give up a little shine, but you'll never see beading like this.

As far as carnubas go, i believe collinite is the winner in durability. It is hard to use and a lacks a little shine some of the other formulas have, but lasts 2 months or so depending on driving and conditions. Blitz would be a close second........

I'll add my vote for Blitz if you want to go the caranuba route. Very easy to work with, gives good depth and "wetness", and lasts a very long time. For $15/tin it's a good deal. Just make sure to keep it away from your black trim!!
